I've primed it black and then zenithal'd it with a grey and dry brushed it with white for a "slapchop" paint style. I was going to paint it with a contrast paint and call it a day but I don't think it'll look all that great if I do. I was wondering if I could airbrush it brown and then edge highlight each individual chunk of fur a slightly lighter brown if that would look good? Really not sure how to approach this.

I also have the hugh tusks it comes with to paint, I painted one with wraith bone and then gave it an agrax earthshade wash which, on smaller models makes for a nice quick bone appearance but on this doesn't look great at all. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

  1. you can try either one of the methods you described. Or you can combine them and use contrast paint and highlight over it if you don't like it. IMO any way can work, just depends on how much time you want to spend on it and what process you are most comfortable with. If you haven't painted much, just pick a way and do it.
  2. the tusks are a big large for a base coat and wash, so the washes usually pool weird and doesn't offer enough color change to make them look right for the size. I would recommend doing the wash but then also going back with the base color and a highlight with a layering technique. You can watch YouTube videos on this, especially Dr Faust Painting Clinic does a lot of layering
