If they won't listen to your telling them not to manhandle the minis...
You can clear coat the minis to protect them but that'll change the finish.
Maybe make them paint their minis themselves. Then they can see how much work it takes and they're not undoing your work.
You could also add a grabbing stick to the base, but that'll kind of ruin the view
