#Thoughts on this color scheme?

Hey y'all, thanks for tuning in. I'm working on my first Warhammer army (a custom Votann league) and the first minis I've painted since I was ~8 years old so I'm excited to be sharing some progress and asking for feedback because I want to make something I can be proud of playing on the tabletop.

As I've moved on from my first model, I've focused on improving my brush control and paint consistency which I think has gone a lot better this time around.

Regardless of technique, I'm more interested in thoughts on the color scheme so far. I'm using Citadel paints aside from a single bottle of everyone's favorite Bold Titanium White.

I've always liked tan/black/white color schemes, but white armor is notoriously troublesome and I think a splash of something bolder like yellow might help add a lot more visual interest. I tried Khorne Red on my first mini's gun, and I think that looks alright, but I also like the idea of using yellow for the weapons or maybe as a stripe on the shoulderpads.

As for the armor, I don't think using Seraphim Sepia on Corax White armor is working very well - I've ordered some Apothecary White to try but I'm not sure whether it'd be better to move to a brighter, cooler white or to just embrace the off-white of Wraithbone. The dark metal parts on the boots, lower shoulders, knees, and elbows are Leadbelcher with Black Templar on top. That doesn't look too bad but I wonder if just using a darker metallic paint in the first place would be easier and look even better (or just painting them black with gray edge highlights and ditching the metallic altogether).

I also think it might be cool to fit some more bronze in there as it would fit the dwarfy theme but silvery metal might stand out better against the tan cloth and white/black armor.

I'm aware there are a few spots that need touching up, and I haven't done much in the way of highlighting as of yet, but I wanted to hear your thoughts on the colors I'm using and their placements before I get too much further.

TL;DR:

  • thoughts on the white? Brighter and cooler tone or go warmer and boney?
  • thoughts on the black? Use a darker metal instead of layering Leadbelcher with Black Templar or maybe just ditch the metallic and use regular Corvus/Abaddon black?
  • what color for weapons? Maybe yellow? Could add yellow stripes to armor as well for coherency

Damn that ended up a lot longer than I thought – my bad lol

The bases will be blue with pink/purple flora so that should add some nice contrast

Also the gray leather/rubber parts are up for debate as well 😅 any c/c is appreciated
