I have tried to find a good recipe for a glaze, but I can only find how to use them, not how to mix them. I currently just thin my paints a bit and add some Vallejo glaze medium, but it’s always too thin or too thick or too transparent or too opaque. Any tips?

There's not a good recipe because every brand, and colour is going to behave slightly differently when you thin them.

Unfortunately as with many things it's just a skill you need to develop with practice.

Some general tips though is to be wicking the excess water from your brush away onto paper towel before you paint.
Also test it on your nail or the skin just behind it to see that it is translucent enough before you take it to the model.

I personally make them by just using only the Vallejo glaze medium to thin it, then touching my brush to some flow improver and pull out a small bit from my palette to load onto the brush.

Like Psykka said, you have to test it on your nail or finger or whatever you see fit, that'll be the way to tell if it's thinned enough or not. Waking the excess is necessary to unload the brush - once thinned, paint would otherwise behave like a wash, which is not what you want when glazing (even if you are probably thinning by about the same amount).
As for everything, Vinve Venturella has a video (like many others, pick your favorite): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEcDL8mLZzo

In this hobby cheating tutorial, I take you through everything you need to know to glaze. This can be one of the trickier techniques for newer painters, but there is nothing to be afriad of and I show you how to do it and what paints will work best when we are glazing. Hope you enjoy!

you also have to be patient when glazing. Apply a layer, let it dry, apply another if that was not enough. Dont' rush with another layer before it dries, and don't try to get to the final color you want with a single layer.

Just a note also that "filtering" would be similar. We have so many names to try and communicate between us abnout how we do things, but at the end of the day, ,all we're trying to do is place pigment on the mini. 😉

So don't get hung up on the vocabulary, I guess.
