You've got a great start. I would Probably work on just doing a bit more blending on the cape between the super dark color and the bright red.

Wooooaaah the illustrations quality here is absolutely off the hook. I can see the old school dnd supplement cover, it's wonderful.

Imo, you need to push on the concept of the character being in the dark cold environment of the classic stone walled dungeon, with the blast of green flame and overhead torch light providing the illumination. Bring a bit of the green to his face, hand, and sleeve, and carry some of the heavy cold shadows to his hair and beard opposing it and under his cheekbones

I wasn’t really going for an old school vibe so that’s a happy accident! Thank you so much! I will be taking that in

I think it's the extreme temperature contrast between the violet shadow and the red cape that brings this illustrational quality.

You could push that even further by bringing a little bit of yellow-orange to some of the very topmost portions of the model - since he's clearly not lit entirely by the flame (or he would look green) presumably he's got one of those convenient "dungeon torches" primarily lighting him up. Who puts those there? Who lights them? Required by Dungeon OSHA probably. But so convenient for seeing heroic protagonists on book covers

Ah, perfect example
