#What tools am I missing? (Beginner)

Hey there, fellow mini painters! I am super excited to get started on painting, since I finally got enough money to delve into my ‘starter kit’! Right now I am trying to figure out final purchases needed, but I know for sure I need snippers for the sprues, and a hobby knife. What else should I get? (Either via online or what to look for in a store, I will take any help I can get!)

Plastic cement if you haven’t already gotten it

Tamiya extra thin is my favourite

And welcome to the hobby.

And one important thing: don't buy any modeling tool from GW or even any hobby brand.
You can find similar tools, and in most cases better ones, in a harware/diy shop for much cheaper.
Example: hobby knife. for the price of 5 or 10 blades in a hobby shop you can get 100 blades in a medical supply shop. (and I mean exactly the same blades, not equivalent)

Gotcha, I will keep an eye out for both. And noted. I know my way around most hardware shops thanks to 6+ years maintenance experience, and I am glad I got confirmation that they would be good places to go. Thank you, @ruby niche and @oblique escarp !

I started with the same kit and you don't need anything you don't have here, besides the tools you mentioned. Technically not even cement, since these are pushfit minis, though I did glue mine.

Hope you have fun with it, welcome to the hobby. 🙂

Airbrush.

You don't strictly need one right now, however my advice would be this.

If you build these up paint them, enjoy doing it, and decide this is something you enjoy and want to do more of. Invest in an airbrush early. That way you'll learn airbrushing skills and paint brush skills at the same time. Unlike me who's been painting for years, who recently bought an airbrush and now feels like they're at the beginning all over again. 😂

I don't think airbrush is needed early and learning brush painting and airbrush at the same time sounds like a good way to get someone to quit the hobby.

I totally agree. Airbrush should come much later, when someone is sure they enjoy the hobby.
Not due to fact that having to learn two thing at a time, but more due to the costs associated with airbrushing.

Luckily, I know the basics of air brushing thanks to using pneumatic sprayers, so I think it will translate pretty well when I do get enough for an airbrush. Really it’s just a question of when I have the money for it, haha.

Speaking as a fellow beginner who is yet AB-free, there's a lot of other stuff that comes before.
After painting the first of your three Marines, it's likely you'll want a primer, a varnish and a few more colors for the leathers, eyes and other bits that are not covered in the starter set.
If you really want to go the spending route, there's a Hobby Cheating video on what to buy as a beginner, but honestly I'd just get to painting and see what you feel like you're missing. Go at it organically is my advice.
