might need a deeper shade on that yellow section
idk though since that bit's just meant to be the peel
the carapace will be overripe peel
once I've locked the yellow down I'll apply it to the rest of the skin sections and paint over the tail in green unripe peel
the claws/hooves will all be peeled banana flesh, near-white
tail itself is the only bit painted properly for the test, ignore the leg
that's just pink underpaint + 1 halfhearted layer
intensified the highlight on the skin
did the carapace
not really happy with the quality of the "spots", need to get the paint to flow better off a tiny brush so I can actually make them round
or perhaps not since I think they read fine from the intended distance
I'm thinking this looks very close to what the finished mini will look like
what do you guys think]
darkened the shadows a bit
I think this is it
This is looking good. Is the plan to make it look like it's a peeled banana, or just using those colors in places?
only the claws/hooves
it'd be more noticeable on monsters/hormagaunts
termagant isn't the best unit to show off the scheme tbh
I think normal banana peel carapace and peeled banana flesh could also have worked but I wanted normal banana to be dominant
and peeled banana carapace sounds weird as a concept
loving the new tyranid models btw
really distinct muscle groups for highlight placement
makes it very easy for you
I just did this one in global illumination/overhead lighting and I think it looks pretty decent even though I'm usually not a huge fan of that style
Any updated pics?
What's the brown? Rhinox hide over black primer?
been super busy past few days, haven't had the wherewithal to get the paints out
probably tomorrow though
vallejo flat brown over grey
then decided it wasn't dark enough so
did a very thick wash of some ratio of flat brown and black
so it tinted everything
No worries, it'll let me know when u do so no rush
if I were doing it again I'd start from brown, black, purple
the mixture of that brown with black already appears quite purple but it definitely needs a bit more intensity
V inspiring btw, got the tyranid half of the leviathan box and I didn't think of a yellow scheme
I think if I wasn't doing it as a shitpost I wouldn't go for soooooo much yellow
carapace would definitely be something else
probably still something nature inspired though
back in the day I had a display of gaunts and warriors done up in various insect/lizard bird schemes
the way this is going I'll have a display of gaunts and marines done up in various fruit/vegetable schemes...
That sounds awesome, please post pics of the when you get round to it
I'm thinking of adapting the coconut crab scheme
Not got colours down yet but I got 10 extra hormagaunts to test on
oh yeah that's one of the ones I did
my one was quite simple since my painting ability wasn't really good enough to form a gradient so it was just a red-brown with peach spots/stripes all over
very shortly after I started painting lol
just layering small strokes of yellow over a brown-yellow layer over the slightly purplish brown + black
the combination gives it a slightly pallid green tinge that I hope is reminiscent of overripe banana when combined with the spots on top
wait, realising now I forgot the flat brown layer before building up to yellow brown on the top of the carapace
oh well it is what it is
glazed the mid yellow of the carapace in lots of strokes towards the tail
should have done the same with the highlights in hindsight
will try that on the other side and see if it turns out better
did the other side and the head
not overly happy with the detailing but I know what I'd do better next time
don't have anything good to wash with so tried 3 different methods for the vents here
only one I'm happy with is the one on the leg
gonna use that on all future nids until I get some good washes to shade them with
tried to just use thinned paint for the wash on those but was struggling hard with the consistency and coverage
