#What to improve with NMM?

There is a gold color nmm step tutorial in the database here. http://imgur.com/gallery/6dK2tjG
And a round shield nmm too

It's not reading as gold to me and I think what's missing is some zoomed out overall lightning not the edge highlights.
Like the round shield has an overall big gradient. I would copy the light from some part of the shield to your half circle. Maybe the nmm gold album helps with the colors?
Based on the overall highlights you can then adjust the edge highlights so they are brighter one area that's the light source and darker in the shadowy areas
Looks reasonable to me. I meant this channel just a gathering of stuff #tutorials-database
Not really tbh. Think of metal as a big mirror. In this case, the whole thing looks flat, so the reflection (usually of the horizon & sky) should be continous across both pieces, as it would be on a flat mirror that is a weird shape cutout.
If the light on the left side (viewer) is bottom left to top right, the light reflection on the right side of the the headset should be in the same broad direction.
But you have the right idea with trying to sketch it roughly digitally before going for paint. Just try to look up some references for flat gold objects and try multiple versions. You'll know it's working when it starts looking shiny when you look at the picture from a distance.
The reason the shield is not a good reference is that it's a gentle cone, hence the rendering of reflections in triangles. That's not how light behaves on flat surfaces.
really trying to wrap my head around this as the surface is very irregular proving to be quite the challenge. I'm imagining light source top left.
Try thinking of it as one big flat piece to get the overall gradient and then add shadows in the recesses and specular highlights on the highest points
