So I’m painting my first army and I need help, I though that slap chop looked easy enough that I couldn’t mess it up and I guess I was wrong.

I brushed on Vallejo black primer and sprayed with Tamiya Light Gray from a spray can with a off-white dry brush and Skeleton horde contrast on top.

My main issue is all the black in the shadows , I’m assuming that I did not put down enough gray zenithal highlight and that’s really my only problem, should I just respray more gray on top of this and restart from there?

Ossiarch Bonereapers for Age of Sigmar

you got real grimy ossiarch, i find it stylish but lacking contrast, you can add drybrush of bone colour and they will be significantly brighter

#

then you can tint it down with thinned contrast with water

#

to my mind your army lack colour

I kinda just stopped after I applied the skeleton horde contrast because i wasn’t liking the way the bones looked. I am planning on making the cloth a deep Maroon, light blue swords and either using a purple or a mid to dark blue for the shields and armor.

you can try apply more grey spray can on one model and if results wouldn’t satisfy you just strip him

I personally find them pretty alright, @knotty kernel .

#

However, there's something that I could say is that they lack color.

#

The banners, robes and clothes deserve some color to make them pop.

#

Most of the time, with cases like this one, people pick a vibrant or just a color that makes them pop out a bit more, or make them more visually interesting.

#

This is how people paint skeleton armies, by painting the bones in such typical neutral colors, but the clothes or armor in a vibrant color.

The lack of color is because I just stopped painting since I was unhappy with how they were looking, today I’m going to pick out 5 or 6 models and continue on with them adding some color and see what I end up with

#

It’s my first army and I haven’t painted anything at all or even done art in about 10+ years so maybe I just quit too soon.

Don't quit. lol

The hobby is literally here for you to have fun, and paint freely.

Quit for that painting session I guess I should say

midnight ivy
#

nah, if you quit, then you won't improve. 👁️

I was ready to just start all over but I’m going to push a few specific models today and see where I end up instead of trying to batch paint 50ish models

It doesn't look bad at all, it just needs some color is all.

#

It's not exactly an eye-catching paintjob, but that's because it's just muted colors.
