Not all dragons need be fire 🔥 creatures. The Olm looks like a Lung/Ryu type dragon for instance. A blind water dragon would be very standout.

This is actually the wood "reset" I put some brown wash over it and tried to dry brush it with a fleshy orange and just ruined it. I'm afraid to try again lol.

What I usually do with wood is use a really dark(ened) brown wash over a medium-dark brown to get in those recesses. I've found that using a brown wash over brown paint doesn't shade it enough to my taste, but maybe that's just my experience with the stuff I have at hand.
The rest of the mini does look great though! That water came out really well 👍

It's a bit of a happy accident tbh, was confused my friend for who I'm painting this one wanted an onyx dragon, so started out with the dark turquoise. But then I realised he actually wanted an amethyst dragon, so started doing the crystals purple. But the colour combo turns out to be pretty good 😅

Barely started mine. Did some base coating of the mouth and washed a lot of the green parts. Since this is going to be a tabletop piece I just don’t have the strength to spend ages to paint the recesses manually 😛

Although after this is over I’m debating just giving my washes away. Whenever I use them these days it’s just not satisfying at all.

Whatdid you do for the base?/how did you do it?

the base, I 3D print most of my bases to get the shape and edges, they are hollow. I stick the mini in and use DAS modelling clay to fill. When painting I do the top of the base brown and the rim black. When dry, I stick some different colored tufts here and there, slather the rest of the base in thinned PVA glue and stick the whole thing into a tub of several types of mixed flock, scatter and static grasses. I use "autumn" and "dark" colours mainly these days.
Very quick and very simple, and looks good.

HOW: drybrushing with a large brush mostly, and knowing which paints work well together. Also not caring too much if I get sloppy. Does wonders for your painting speed that last part. Just rub the paint on with a large brush and fix the worst mistakes at the very end.

This is the tenth one, and then I will have one each of the metallic and chromatics.

I hear people say it's hard, but as someone with an artistic background, so long one follows the rule of "no pure white/black outside of extremes, if at all" is usually enough to get an ok result

So my dragons are done. Those two are my first finished minis this year and they didn't turn as I hoped they would because I tried wet blending which is new to me and the sculpt were actually pretty bad (I spent something like 3 days removing mould lines).
