I'm kind of bored of seeing all power weapons just being "blue sword" with lightening or something. I was wondering if anyone had tips on making it look more like a regular sword that's imbued with power. Like a gentle glow or something with a edge highlight is what I was thinking, would that work?

Try colorshift paints and gloss varnish.
or
for a two edged blade like a typical broadsword: try painting it lengthwise in two colours with a high contrast between them. such as white/black, red/blue, yellow/purple, and keep a hard, straight edge where they meet.
