What can I do to improve these red lenses. Something feels off

A small edge highlight around it might help if you're just worried about it blending in.

I think you can darken it from a bigger area, and maybe even lighten it a bit from the bottom corner. At the moment it's only dark from the top corner, and then the rest is sort of just midtone
Here's another version of a red lens for comparison, though this possibly a bit exaggerated in the name of looking flashy, and a similar thing done with my crappy ms paint skills for your lens
A less saturated red would probably be more realistic, but depends what you're going for and what you like?

If everything else fails, try a coat of gloss varnish, only on the lens or gemstone.

Haha instructions unclear - gloss coated the entire tank. Lenses still look the same???
