Most hosts who want this set the room to Private (or Friends only) when nearing the end of a movie. A Friend of mine will often set it private in the last ~40minutes of a movie and then go public again when done if planning to show more stuff.

No, it wont kick anyone. You can set it to friends only or private and anyone in the room (even those not friends) will remain. The trick is just to not accidentally set to to Closed 🙂
