Just want to confirm - if I sign up for Premium, the perks only go into effect if I am also in the session? That would mean anytime I am not on, the perks wouldn't apply? Would also mean we would have to provide subscription to our DJs?

Subscriptions are user based, so while they do apply to the whole session when you're in it, it is based on your account! Premium right now applies to our entire ecosystem, so currently it incorporates our other platforms as well (which users will also be able to subscribe on) like a more traditional streaming service. We can look at including other plans! Last time we looked at this however, Discord was pretty limited in the things they actually let you do.

Oof, that's rough. The only reason we use it is for Discord. Hopefully that can be reconsidered, especially since some / most of those limitations aren't there on the Web App. Free Users on Discord seem to be getting the short end of the stick in comparison to Web App users.

Yeah totally get it! For a lil extra clarity, premium and its limitations existed on our old UI for web, but the web app is undergoing a rewrite at the moment which means for the time being it doesn't have any premium (and as a result, no limitations either) while it's being rewritten. They'll be closer up together of an experience once that's done, which we're hoping to have that point reached really soon.

These premium limitations are currently experiments though, so your feedback is super appreciated as it helps us know how it actually feels to use Rythm in a bunch of different use cases. We'll keep your feedback in mind as we tweak the experience in the coming days/weeks!

Howdy! The one server where you're getting a different UI is actually a legacy server, which means they used Rythm a long time ago and are on the old UI which is being rewritten currently in favor of the new UI. Old servers are kept on the old UI to avoid a drastic shift for existing users while we rewrite to a better more performant UI!

I added it to my server because I saw it on a streamer's server, but on my server it sounds a bit worse in quality. Hihi! Quality in general should be the same through the same plans, however it's possible that the voice region of the voice channel does affect the connection a bit. Our best voice region is US Central right now.

There may also be some tracks which aren't fully ingested into the system yet (which have default Rythm logos as their album art in /np) which could also in general have some lower quality tracks since they're not fully in the system

Howdy! Spotify and YouTube links should both work, however do keep in mind that we legally license all tracks so it's possible that we don't have a particular track licensed. Matching with links is a little more accurate with Spotify than with YouTube since YouTube also has a bunch of third party uploads and variations of tracks like music videos, lyrics videos, instrumentals, etc.

I am alone on the server it happened on except for one friend. We were both asleep when it started. The bot stayed alone for 2 hours before I kicked it, playing this song four times. Audit log shows no deleted messages. What the hell happened? It freaked us out.

Howdy! With the way slash commands work, we can display most immediate command responses even if we don't have proper permissions. However, some stuff may break without certain permissions being given, which is why we give out a warning about it.

An easier way to block commands that doesn't rely on changing your server permissions is using the Integrations tab in your server settings! You can deny access to Rythm's commands and enable them only in a specific channel. 🙏

Current way is broken as when you go to set a default playlist with the one you made it says failed. I discovered a workaround if you upload a Spotify playlist as a default playlist and let the bot make it on the Rythm web you can just edit that one.

Howdy! Rythm has always playing enabled by default, but you can check your /settings to confirm it's enabled. When enabled, Rythm will stay in the voice channel until it's manually disconnected

That depends on what you're wanting to achieve. How are you wanting to use Rythm? As a bot that plays music for you when you join? As a manual queue only bot? Something else?

You can /pause and /resume as the easy way, or use /clear to clear your queue. However, Rythm does have autoplay enabled and will attempt to add music to an empty queue. That's something you can also disable in settings!

Sounds like you'll want to disable autoplay and use /clear. When it's done playing, it'll wait for you to add more to the queue! Don't use /stop or /disconnect as those are commands to make the bot leave 🙏

Kind of. The default playlist does accept a playlist and it will play that playlist when nothing else is in the queue, but the intended way to use default playlists is to have filler music or radio-esque behavior. You can use it as a small workaround to play your playlists right now however.

In the future with the playlist update though, the bot will accept the playlist links from the web app to queue & will likely have a sync between the bot and the web app to easily access your playlists, so it's still worth it to create them

Hihi! Rythm has its own library licensed, so compilations like these are not supported for playback. Think of it like searching for music on a traditional music streaming service like Spotify. While playlists of music may exist, typically giant several hour long mixes aren't licensed & uploaded

Hahahaha it's okay it's not that you're doing anything wrong, the premium system is pretty new so we're working out small issues like this. Typically this happens when you subscribe during a session.

In simple terms, we basically "ask" Discord if you've subscribed to us to be able to determine if you should have premium perks or not. There's a limit on how fast we can ask Discord, so sometimes we hit those limits and it wont properly trigger the perks. Typically just doing /leave and then doing a /play fixes it.

Unfortunately it's not as simple as giving it manually, we found some fundamental issues with the system here!

To get a bit technical, Rythm creates accounts on its platform for all users that use Rythm. This is required for a few reasons, but majorly because we're a licensed service so we have to report the music streams we do to the people we licensed from.

For some reason, your account wasn't properly created, so when we go to check your premium status we're hitting an account not found instead. Since there's no account, there's nothing we can actually give premium to, even though I do see your subscription came through from Discord's end.

I'll still ping you when we fix this, but unfortunately for now it will require a bit of patience. Super big apologies! We'll do what we can to make up for it 🙏

To use the Rythm bot you'll first need to invite it to your server. You can do this by opening @dry iris's profile, selecting the "add app" button, then choosing "add to server". From there you'll be able to select what server you'd like to add it to.

To use the bot itself you'll need to join a voice channel, then use the command /join to have it join the channel you're currently in. From there you can use /play followed by the name of a song to have Rythm play music in the voice channel so long as the song is in our catalog.

Howdy! The quality does bypass the rate of the voice channel, so the setting there only matters for users & not bots. By default this is 128kbps and premium is 320kbps!

Got it, in the future if this happens again, moving Rythm outside of a stage channel audience to another channel without disconnecting it first makes it act super funky because Discord stage channels are super weird hahaha. They suppress bots in the audience, but don't unsuppress them when they get moved, so they sometimes get stuck muted

Rythm should automatically detect this and reconnect itself to fix, but just in case it doesn't now you know 🙏

There's unfortunately no way to do that right now since premium plans are user-based (this is also so there's actual cross-platform compatibility for premium. If they weren't tied to your user we couldn't give you perks on our other platforms too)

However, premium is brand new so I can talk with our team to see what's possible. For full transparency we likely wont do any server-wide perks as they just simply aren't very sustainable at scale, but we'll at least do the due diligence of talking about it and looking into it!

You can use the VC Lock in /settings as well to lock it to just a specific voice channel! If you want Rythm's commands to only be used from a specific channel as well, the best way to achieve that is going into your Server Settings > Integrations > Rythm and then you can adjust what channels Rythm has access to 🙏

You could definitely do that! Most servers tend to lock each bot to specific voice channels, but you don't have to. You can always leverage the DJ Only and DJ Role options in settings to lock users from being able to request music on certain bots if you have a specific playlist you want played only

Rythm wont create any voice channels on its own, users will need to join an existing voice channel and can use /play or /join to bring Rythm to that channel once they've joined it themselves

Rythm doesn't play music on its own without being told what to play, so there's two options:

1. With autoplay enabled in the settings you can give it a starter track with /play and it'll automatically queue up new music based on that track when the track ends
2. With a default playlist set in the settings it'll automatically play that shuffled playlist when the queue is empty

To turn off song notifications, you can disable Announce Songs in the settings

Howdy! Are you on bluetooth headphones by chance? Honestly Discord volume on mobile is super tricky and can cause a lot of headaches that we just really don't have a lot of control over unfortunately. If it's low for you but normal for everyone else, you could also turn Rythm up with /volume and have everyone else lower Rythm's volume on their end hahahaha

Autoplay right now will try to give you a mix of tracks that it thinks you'll enjoy based off what's been played in the current session. If there's no session history it'll fall back to your all time history, but the best way to get a mix of genres is to just queue one song of all the kinds of genres you like to listen to & then let autoplay take it from there. Autoplay will interrupt and start a new "session history" when you manually queue tracks, so you can tweak it mid session pretty heavily

Autoplay is also pretty new and experimental, so we're still tweaking its efficacy

Maybe! We're still experimenting with autoplay in general right now to see how best to get it to function, so we'll definitely see. However once you've got a nice history built up of tracks you like to listen to, Rythm can use that all time history to better select tracks for you. If you use /join and just let it sit for about 40 seconds without queueing anything, it'll start loading autoplay automatically for you. Since it just joined, it wont have any session history and will automatically fall back to your all-time, giving you a good mix of things you generally enjoy

It can be summed up as essentially the old UI was incredibly non-performant, buggy, didn't scale well, and didn't leave us a lot of room to add new features.

The new UI's initial implementation was to create a foundation for us to build new features into in a way that is far more performant for all users, scales to all screen sizes, and was way more reliable. The update coming to the UI is expanding on our foundation, giving the home page a proper look and functionality, adding things like autoplay, and refreshing the entire feel and experience of using the UI

However as for actual songs themselves, there's no importing function as Rythm licenses its music to have the legal right to stream it, so the library is based off our licensing efforts basically! (Which is essentially always ongoing, we've ingested millions of songs in the last few weeks)

When disabled, anyone can add music to the queue, voteskip, or do other non-intrusive commands. However, even without DJ Only Mode enabled, there are commands like /disconnect and /forceskip whcih are still locked behind DJ permissions!

We're cooking up a way to do this in /settings, but for now you can do this pretty easily through the integration options in your server settings! Discord Server Settings > Intgerations > Rythm

There, you can disable all channels and explicitly enable only the channels you want commands to be able to run in!

This is correct! The message you're seeing is an onboarding message, so it's not tied to any commands. Rythm will automatically bind to the last channel it was used in, so if you run a command in another channel (like /ping) it'll send stuff there

A bit of a disruption as it requires continuous monitoring, or a memeber has to reach out saying that the channel isn't working. I love that I made a personal soundboard server with only me in it and added rythm 4 and it keeps playing the same song over and over (with the text notifications) until I rejoin the voice channel and then it finishes the song and plays another. Posted this in here because it is kinda a feature and a bug that I kinda don't want to remove

The bot will automatically change what text channel it uses to the last channel a command was used in, so you can swap it by using a command in another channel! We're actively looking into a better text-channel locking system for /settings right now too, though.

Alternative solution:
If you want to lock what channels commands can be used in, you may want to take a look at your Server Settings > Integrations > Rythm as you can disable commands in all channels & only explicitly allow them in channels you want them in. This means when users type / in those channels, Rythm wont even pop up in the autocomplete as a potential command

I wouldn't necessarily call that a bug, it's more so giving transparency to settings so if an admin sees that and didn't know about it before they can be like "oh okay" and go change it if they want (or a user can ask an admin to change it now that they know about it)

Hihi! The one in the first screenshot is a new UI we're developing that's available on most servers, while the second screenshot is our older UI that's only available on servers that launched Rythm before we started development on the new UI. There's a big update for the new UI coming soon!

(Additionally, these two UIs are technically on a split database while we're developing, so data is split between the two. We'll merge them when we're done!)

So since Rythm always adds a button to the last playing song, is there a way we can disable some of these buttons for specific roles? Because in my server they are not allowed to change the volume… as example.

Unfortunately not, discord wont let you disable buttons just for specific people they're either enabled for everyone or disabled for everyone

We couuuuld maybe nice up the control ephemeral response to only include the buttons you can use, but probably not worth the effort in the immediate moment. I can add it to our list to take a look at later tho!
