Not too often, only when necessary for updates. That frequency can vary if we do an update heavy week, but we try to do a bunch all at once to prevent downtime. I think we probably average maybe once every week or two right now

However, we do have systems in place where if you have a queue going during a restart, Rythm will automatically rejoin the VC and still have its queue

We do, we have Rythm premium available for purchase! This primarily was built into the old UI but since we're undergoing a platform rewrite with the new UI, we've left everything unlocked for free (including the web app and discord bot) so we can understand what users like & where they get stuck

It depends on his distributor! We're working on adding more right now, but I believe in terms of indie distribution we support these right now:

• CDBaby
• Amuse

These may not show on the new UI right now however and will come with our content update in the next few weeks

If your friend is using a distributor we support, they'll be able to mark their music for distribution to Rythm using their distributor's platform

That varies platform by platform so I can't give any super detailed steps, but their distributor will likely have a tutorial for how to distribute to a platform

We'll have a bunch more content in the next 3-6 weeks, but individual distributors being added varies in time quite a lot since negotiations with each distributor varies a lot. The rewrite of Rythm brought a pretty big delay to our mobile efforts

Always Playing basically disables our inactivity check, without it enabled the bot will leave the voice channel after 10 minutes of no use

The pausing when everyone leaves is a global behavior, so not something that can be disabled

Yo! Right now you can launch the activity from the same voice channel and you should pair up automatically. You can see the users in your session in the top right corner next to your profile picture. If you aren't automatically paired even though you're in the same voice channel, they should see the session pop up at the top of their home feed!

We're currently looking at building a friends system to make inviting easier as well, so hopefully that will make listening together smoother in the future.

The settings are meant for you to adjust Rythm's settings in your server, the playlist importing there is meant to set the default playlist for the server, not be a dedicated playlist import tool. A proper playlist import tool could come in the future, but for the time it existed we found it had really low use overall so it hasn't been a priority for reimplementation on our rewrite

The old UI didn't actually work that good hahaha, it was riddled with bugs, performance issues, and had a lot of unsupported devices due to resolution scalability. This was generally due to some foundational issues with frameworks we were using, which is what lead us to rewrite the app from the ground up.

As a result of the rewrite, Rythm now works on a lot more resolutions, is a lot more performant, and has far more room to grow on other devices as this new UI is easier to adapt to other platforms

Understand, but are they Rythm team/staff still working on it as faster they can to be finally finished so me and other Rythm users can finally use example the Rythm web app and mobile app without a one big bug?

We're working as quickly as we can, yes! There have definitely been multiple nights where we're up until midnight just working on stuff together to try and get it out. Those late night work pushes produced all of the fixes from our last changelog here: #changelogs message

So we're working! We're just a small team with a lot of avenues we have to work on. Rythm is a complicated product considering we're looking at avenues for the desktop & mobile discord activity, mobile app, desktop & mobile web app, and desktop app.

Then behind the scenes we have a lot of other challenges to consider that aren't directly development things. Some of these are like meeting with labels & distributors to get content on Rythm, meeting with financial experts to ensure we're good for tax documentation, or even just having to spend time to build tooling for us to use on other things like support related requests.

So I promise we work hard & work almost every day, things just take time if they're going to be good 🙏

And i really still love to listen to music on Rythm and thats i want to subscribe to Premium to Support Rythm and you Rythm Teams. But my mean and i believe that you should focus more on Rythm mobile app and web Rythm desktop app but more on Mobile Rythm app like on iOS and Android, because many in Norway is using a phone to listen the music so, yes! Me as a Game and Server Developer i will request to Rythm Team/Staff to focus more on desktop web Rythm app and Mobile Rythm app but more on mobile Rythm app on iOS and Android. Information is linked to your Rythm profile which is created automatically when you launch the activity through Discord. As long as you're using the same Discord account you'll have the same info!

I tried /disconnect and then /join but it said it doesn't have permissions to speak in the stage channel but the bot is clearly a stage moderator + I didn't change any permissions for it, I'll show this in the video (sorry for another language, in the previous video you can see in english what permissions does @uncut pumice have on the Stage channel!)

If you search for their tracks on existing music services and it's there, they've uploaded their music through some distributor

Hihi! There isn't a command to restrict usage on a channel, instead you should use channel permissions or the integration options in your server settings which can restrict commands to channels, roles, or individual members 🙏

Additionally, Rythm does have a way to restrict people from using Rythm using the DJ Only setting in /settings. However, this wont stop people from running commands entirely, just blocks non-DJs from the commands having any effect. Rythm will still respond to the commands. If you want to block command running period, the better option is to use integration or channel permissions 🫡

How do I make a playlist for Rythm to play 24/7?

Rythm will accept spotify playlists or playlists created through the activity/web app. If you use a spotify playlist, make sure to set it to public!

Once you have a playlist set up, run the /settings command and provide the link as your Default Playlist. Then, make sure you enable the "Always Playing" feature as well. From there you're good to go! Optionally, you can lock the bot to a voice channel so no one can move it from the channel or disconnect it.

Just a quick feedback: the bot’s search system doesn’t work properly. Even when searching for “Blinding Lights - The Weeknd,” it often plays a cover instead of the original. This happens with many other songs as well. Other music bots don’t seem to have this issue, but I still prefer using Rythm because the audio quality is noticeably better.

To make your friend a DJ, you can do two things:

1. Give them whatever role you've set as your DJ role (by default this is any role named "DJ" which you can configure in /settings)
2. Give them the Manage Server permission

Run /settings then click into the dropdown under the settings box. In this box, select the "Set DJ Role" option. Then, click the "Edit Set DJ Role" button. This will pop up a menu where you can enter the name of any role you want to be set as your DJ role. This must match an already existing role!

Once you've done those steps, you can give your friend that role and they'll be marked as a DJ

Yes! YouTube and Spotify links should both be supported right now. However, do keep in mind that we aren't directly playing music from YouTube and Spotify. What happens is we look up the song you're requesting and check our library for if we have it licensed. Sometimes this means you may get something a little different than what you requested, but for the most part it should be pretty good.

Autoplay should trigger when the last song in the queue has finished. Additionally, autoplay will only trigger if the songs in the queue were not skipped quickly. It should work if these conditions are met after a short delay (which is meant to give you time to queue something manually if you wanted)!

Hihi! You can stop Rythm from announcing what songs it plays by toggling off the "Announce Songs" setting in /settings

Rythm will also automatically use the last channel a command was used in as the channel it will send messages to. If you restrict what channels commands can be used in via Discord's integrations settings, you could achieve a similar effect to a logging channel.

Howdy! You may have noticed when this song was queued that it had a default Rythm profile picture as album art, that means this song hasn't actually been fully ingested into our library, but still had a playable track attached to it for you to be able to play.

Admittedly, this is a bit of a weird state right now. It means we can't add this track to your liked list, but you can still play it. We'll look into solutions for this odd scenario, but for now you may have to just remember that you liked this song and try again later 🙏

Rythm could be lagging for you for a number of reasons, the most likely cause is just distance from Rythm however. Being further away from where Rythm is hosted (North America) will be more likely to have connection issues. You could try swapping your voice servers to US East or something similar and may potentially see improvements!

Heya, is there a discord bot guide anywhere? I couldn't seem to find much information on https://rythm.fm/ .
I've invited the bot to a discord server, and see the /commands listed under the user info, so I have managed to get the bot to play a song in a voice channel, but it won't allow me to then play music in another channel; I'm guessing this is a limitation of having only one bot. Is there a way to invite more bots so multiple voice channels can listen to music concurrently?

You can add all of the bots from our sidebar right now to have them play in multiple channels! Although they're named after genres, that's just because of the implementation we have here where they automatically play genre playlists for us. We do this with native Discord settings, you can block bot commands from being used in certain channels using the Integrations options in your server settings. That's all we do here 😌

Slightly less useful for channels that use other bots for managing events and such whereby completely disabling bot commands from other channels isn't ideal, but can perhaps make a workaround with role permissions. You can actually edit these per-bot in the integration settings! So if you don't want Rythm used in a channel but you do want another bot, you can disable specifically Rythm's commands for that channel and not another bot's

Am I correct in understanding that these integration permissions mean that everyone can use the commands, but it can't be used in every channel; only in "#general"? I'm still able to use the commands in other channels with this setup.

Alternatively, I didn't give the bot Admin permission and in a locked channel it doesn't have permission to see, commands continue to work, briefly noting "I do not have the View Channel, Send Messaged, Embed Links permission in this channel, some functionality may be limited", but somehow overrides permission, joins the channel to post, and then leaves again lol.

If you're okay with foregoing visual controls entirely, you can also just use the bot commands and that should have 0 impact on their computer. It'll play music through the bot account in the voice channel instead

Yeah that's exactly right! You're allowing everyone to use commands, but they'll on be available in your general chat.

The behavior you're seeing here is because Rythm uses slash commands which entirely ignore permissions like view channel or send messages in their responses, due to how Discord does slash commands. We do have some queue management stuff where you can remove songs with /remove, move songs from certain positions to other positions with /move, and clearing the queue with /clear.

The bot commands don't accept direct playlist links quite yet, we have support for them already in the bot side but our backend that actually handles grabbing the music doesn't support it quite yet. So it's almost there, just not quite yet!

The difference between these two UIs is that the one on the web app is brand new, it's a totally split off version of Rythm that we're building from the ground up to improve on a bunch of design flaws we had with the original Rythm. This one will run smoother, faster, and more in-line with what users expect of a streaming service.

It's pretty new, so we're still building it up to be in feature parity with the other UI. Some stuff is missing still!

However, to be in the same session as you, they'll still need the discord activity open unfortunately until we finish building out parity for friends & session joining

We haven't implemented monetization quite yet in our new UI since we've been testing out what works and we wanted to give users unhindered access to features so we can tell what they actually like and use. hi! I'm new to using bots in general and cannot figure out how to use this one. I would like to play a YouTube music mix in my server but Rhythm keeps saying it can't find the link. I type /join and then paste the youtube link and hit enter. Am I doing something wrong?

Hihi!

Rythm is a little different than other music bots if you've used a different one. To be able to stream music to people legally, we have to license the music we play first. When you request a youtube link, what we do is look for the song in our licensed library of tracks to see if we have it for playback. If we don't, you may run into messages saying that the track is unavailable. However, we do have some major content updates coming in the next couple weeks that should help a lot with songs not being available. Ty!

ah got it! I haven't used any music bot before. So if I want a continuous stream of lofi music or something, say for writing groups, do I just have to manually keep loading different songs one at a time?

Rythm actually has a pretty new autoplay functionality that should be enabled by default. If you find a lofi track you enjoy and request it, when the queue runs empty autoplay will pick up and automatically add songs for you that it thinks you'll enjoy based on your listening history in both the session, personally, and for the server.

Hmmm looking at the logs I do think this is what happened. That does mean the issue lies with us on refining the recommendation system more since it's still pretty new, but for now what you can do is just keep feeding your queue some lofi tracks until the autoplay system can pick up the slack. The more tracks it has, the better it should start working

If you run /np or /nowplaying and the icon is the default Rythm logo then it won’t let you like. I believe it’s the song isn’t fully in their system yet or something, but it’s still playable so you can listen to your song.

Rhythm bot isn’t working. Any time we try to use “/play” the bot gets stuck searching for the song, and nothing gets added to the queue. When using /search, a list of songs will show, but when selecting one to play or selecting “queue all” it does nothing or says “there’s already a queue all in process” and nothing gets added to the queue

So it’s likely a bug with the bot itself, and not our permissions

Premium right now isn't really implemented into our new UI or the bot, so all of that documentation is a lil old. We're in the process of rebuilding Rythm from the ground up (and only recently re-released the bot) so monetization will come a bit later when we're certain of what features are working for Rythm & are actually used by users. When we implement it though, premium has historically been $4.99 + any tax in your area!

Hihi, last night we rolled out updates to Rythm which required a restart. This could cause the bot to leave channels it was in. Did you intend to have the bots stay in the voice channels? If so, can you check if the Always Playing setting is enabled?

It does sound like the auto-restore isn't working. If you use the bots as just a looping playlist, i'd suggest using the default playlist functionality since it will automatically play that playlist when the queue is empty (and shuffle it too, so it's not the same songs in the same order every time.)

As an added bonus, there isn't a queue to restore there so it should work more resiliently.

This is an unfortunate quirk right now as we're ingesting tracks, you'll notice some tracks have album art that is a default Rythm logo in /np. Any tracks like this won't be able to be added to your likes because we've ingested their audio so they're playable, but there's a bunch of other processing that hasn't happened yet to be able to actually add the track to your liked list

This should be a lot better in the near future as we approach the release of our content update!

This may require us to do a more long-term look into the autoplay system itself. If the track is stuck and you can't queue more, try running a /skip on it and that should help fix it.
