Doesn't make a ton of sense to implement ocean physics for lava when the effect can be achieved by shaders instead. Plus ocean physics are overkill for lava. Astralex has a waving lava option, it looks great

I definitely think that would look good, but the waves would also have to be a lot shorter so i’m not sure how noticeable it would be

yeah i just suggested it because it seems like an easy copy paste for a nice feature since lava is very similar.
i dont know how it works tho so it could be difficult, in that case not worth it

Magma is a lot more viscous than water and some physics will have to be different. Magma wouldn't really slosh back and forth like water would. At least, not in a way that's really visible to you.

But since you mention the nether, In the nether, lava could flow faster because of the extreme heat, but this cannot be done in the overworld.

Hawaii's fastest recorded magma flow was 6 miles per hour. Which is painfully slow compared to water
