Are lock mastery made lockpicks that are above average/ "master made" lockpicks supposed to be better than off the shelf lockpicks or is it a lottery where we get a chance to get a lockpick cheaper than off the shelf cost?
Tonight I tested out making vaalin lockpicks. I have one that was already made with the best messaging and it was unsurpassed. We've theorized that means it has a slightly higher modifier than normal vaalin lockpicks. However, I just created an 'average' lockpick that appraises as incredible (same as kelyn/2.4x) and a 'far below average' that was excellent (Alum/2.3x and golvern/2.35x).
This has made me wonder if the rarer/better made versions are the same as off the shelf and 'average' and 'below average' are actually worse than off the shelf.
Are there any GMs that can shed light on how this works and if it's worth doing this over buying an off the shelf lockpick?
