Is it normal for the custom weapon flares to take over the holy water flares from temporary blesses in addition to the built in flare messaging? Because it seems to be happening and my eyes are a little tired from all the intense staring and laser beaming.

Yes. If you have "general" FA they hit all the flares that aren't script. I had to make my custom apply only to my accuity because it was also hitting my bane flares, which looked stupid.
The advantage to general is if you change the flare, you still have FA. If I change my acuity for something else, I lose the FA (well it's still there, but it has no flare tied to it to work on)

I have dispell, acuity, and if it's blessed it takes over the bless as well. It leaves the dispell alone
