Hello, I've had a great time attending the IRL meetups and I'm excited to share my project.

Hannah Tactics (name pending) is a turn based tactics RPG.

A small farming town has been overrun by a sudden surge in slimes. Play as Hannah, a young sorceress who has been tasked to save the townspeople and discover the cause of this terrifying phenomenon. You'll be joined by three other characters whose peculiar abilities will help you survive the surrounding wilderness and defeat the enemies that threaten to destroy the city.

My initial idea was to make comic that was a "reconstruction" of the anime Yu-gi-oh. The protagonist enters a card game tournament and fights his way to the top. After writing the story, I realized that actually drawing the comic was much more difficult than I thought. I tried to re-adapt the story to make a card game rpg, but I ran into several design and coding challenges and decided to defer that idea. From there I decided to start smaller and make a tactics rpg using a substory from the world within the card game.

The story of your game moving through multiple mediums before it became a game hits home in a good way. My project was going to be a comic series, then a graphic novel, then a cartoon, then a graphic novel again, and now it’s a game. Once you find the medium your story can best be told in it makes all those late nights worth it! Stoked to see the journey this project takes!

Nice! Thanks for sharing.
My previous game was a turn based tactics, it's a challenging and rewarding genre to work in. I wish you the best.

It's been about 1 year since I started this project. I originally thought it would take less than a year to finish the programming and while arguably the core gameplay is done, I think it'll take at least 2 more years to get it to be perfect. (I'm really hoping that none of the other parts will require any math or weird animation synchronization.) I'm estimating it will take about 2 years for art too. I've been doing the art myself but I don't think that's sustainable. (The tiles are from an asset pack and the environment objects are adapted from that pack.) Audio definitely will need to be "outsourced". I feel like I need to either monetizing the development or get a job to be able to complete this project.

I think there's no shame in outsourcing! Do what it takes to make it happen! Crossing the finish line will be worth it!
