And that's not to mention the difficulty, which I did say you can get used to it but it's still quite punishing

And then there's all the changes calamity makes which already turn the entire game on its head, via the possibility of progression skips, and many QOL changes that turn the focus of the game a lot more towards bosses, etc

That's not true, not exactly

First of all, it changes world generation quite a bit, such as adding a temple in the underworld where you can fight some post ML bosses which in calamity you'd fight elsewhere, and changes the abyss entirely. It also adds two new bosses based on minibosses (dreadnautilus from base terraria, and great sand shark from Calamity), and it reworks most of the other minibosses too

But the main thing isn't that bosses are just harder, but HOW they're designed. Infernum is designed a lot around consistent patterns and the knowledge of them. In some ways, this even removes for the most part the "luck" that can change a boss fight in vanilla terraria or even sometimes base calamity.
