Here’s my take:

Both are magical, but one requires skill in the arcane arts to use compared to the other.
Magic weapons are conduits for specific offensive spells and require the user’s own mana supply to use, and skill to properly activate.

Melee weapons on the other hand are still magical, but require only the most basic of arcane skill to use and are fueled by their own mana storage. As such, most anyone can use them and do not drain the user’s mana pool. However, this limits the complexity of the spell loaded onto the weapon, and requires recharging from outside sources, though users could certainly charge them with their own mana supply.
