What if OLC had SoC's mechanic where if you hit something you get propelled backwards, but on steroids? Would feel really epic imo, not sure how practical or balanced it'd be.
Or, make it so you need to land on the ground before you can charge up another dash, just like refreshing wings n double jumps

Merge Calcium Potions with Bounding Potions
Calcium Potions are a potion that gives immunity to fall damage. However, Lucky Horseshoe is an accessory that exists in the exact same section of the game, and serves the exact same purpose. Both of them have a method that requires you to go underground (Skeleton Merchant/Ancient Bone Dust for Calcium Potions, and the Calamity crafting recipe for Lucky Horseshoe), which is a direct overlap of obtainments. While you may argue that having a potion to negate fall damage lets the player free up an accessory slot, that's not really a reason to keep it around. My personal suggestion to fix this is merging Calcium Potions with Bounding Potions, as Bounding Potions already give increased resistance to fall damage, so changing that to full immunity is hardly an issue. Also, with this solution, it won't directly clash with the Lucky Horseshoe, as Bounding Potions while slightly harder to get don't do the exact same thing as the Lucky Horseshoe.
It sucks at the moment so I would appreciate feedback

ranger has like 2 things going for it, relative consistency and shit tons of weapons
mage has even less because it doesnt have ammo
Ammo and Mana both being neat concepts with flawed executions, and oftentimes weapons will just outright ignore them
ammo is good at one thing
it keeps the variety of ways you can use a single weapon relatively high
I think a very legit reason against the calcium potion suggestion is that bounding is way harder to get because of frog it is way harder
Bounding is not "slightly harder to get"
And addint it to bounding also make it so you cant obtain it from skeleton merchant because it no longer thematically make sense
And yes, the point of calcium potion is literally to potentially free up a slot as the suggestion pointed out in the case where you dont want to use a lucky horsehoe, so it is ok for the effect overlap because that is exactly what it is trying to do

Not eveyone always have a perfect arena that cover the whole area, there are a lot of situation in survival world where you are forced to go off arena (which is when fall damage matter)
Or forced into the balloon item line because while it is good is also usually harder to obtain even from crafting
Or even use it temporary at early game exploration due to its simple recipe befoee you are unable to explore too deep
Or even the absurd scenario of going mount + glass cannon and use calcium potion for when you need to perform sudden dodging and go off mount
The tldr of the potion is that "you are not forced to have a fall immune accessory", because of how essential it is to nearly all point of progression
If the problem is with ancient bone dust you can even just make it so it use carton of milk (maybe boost the drop chance in this case) instead or even only sold by skeleton merchant
You will be surprise how many people just do not notice this without looking at wiki, and also bounding potion still need vines which especially for early game is not a very easy item to obtain in large amount
if people dont notice that it happens then thats on them
what potions do people actively notice without looking it up

Assuming first time playing the game, if you throw water bottles into guide's crafting, you can get a good guess on most potion fish except for the other evil that dont exist in your world and summoning
(By all I mean combat relevant potion)
They can easily get daybloom, shiverthorn and fireblossom, likely deathweed
Moonglow, blink root and waterleaf generally can be more difficult
Maybe endurance is harder to guess but I dont remember others that stand out
(Ok it is named "cavefish" so there is a hint)
water bottles arent the most intuitive thing to get
i doubt frog and vine are much harder to deduce

If you put any herb into guide it will also show a lot of potion crafting with water bottle
Your next step is just to find how to make water bottle (or just empty bottle in this case because water bottle is shown by guide)
Calcium Potions cost 20 Silver Coins
1 frog 1 vine = 3 potions for 5 mins each (15m total)
meanwhile 1 ebonkoi 1 deathweed = 1 potion of 4 minutes
Rage wrath is also more potent and costly that usually you will not try to keep it permanently up
Calcium and bounding are more minor effect and are longer lasting
And calcium can be purchased or crafted and last 20 minutes per potion (unless they changed it at some point)

It's not intuitive. What I'm suggesting is to not make it mandatory to go onto the Calamity discord, ask how to dash, help ruin some admin's day, wait a few hours, and finally get it answered by the person who answers them for like the 5,000th time. It's inefficient, unintuitive, and creates a worse experience for older Terraria players, who by this point are probably familiar with the dash controls, have it as an instinct, and will only do that. The fact that there's no way to know how to fix it without trial and error just bothers me to no end, knowing that there are lots of players confused as to why the Shield of Cthulu won't work. Some might not even figure out that it's the dash setting added by Calamity.
These giant blocks of text are a key sign that we should use font formatting more often...

Fully agree with the dash config sugg. The current setup is very unintuitive.
I thought you had to bind it as a sort of, optin, in the first place for it to actually override the double tap though. Is that not the case? 
It is not. Besides, if you accidentally enable it, it's hard to find the issue.

Perhaps have it so that even when the control is bound, you can have it as a configuration option that decides whether it gets used or not. Perhaps 0 for double-tap, 1 for both, and 2 for keybind.

Because your muscles are either used to doubletap or the override key for dashing
Not to mention accidentally doubletap dashing while having a different key for it at the same time would further be inconvenient
