I agree that enemies dropping food is silly (which is why Fab wanted to change it), but this solution feels really rushed and would make food relatively easy to get
I feel like there's a balance to strike between dropped (in ways that make sense), harvested, made and bought
I see this less as "impeding" someone's playstyle (or something), but it's just the matter of making the economy more naturally reasonable while still letting some whacky stuff in terms of grinding to some extent
and Terraria isn't a sandbox, let alone calamity, they have a somewhat specific direction on where they want to take their version of Terraria

one of the many reason i used classic style health even in 1.4 is bar style didnt have numbers for the LONGEST time

i nohit everything in july of 2018 and gave up at yharon because it was no fun and then i Never finished
and i think there IS a mod that adds it but it doesnt look as clean as cal style
also the percentages are nice, very clear, very clean as well
i cant use the new health bars they SUCK because no numbers
cal bar is much less intrusive too, much like how i usually fight with either map overlay or no map at all

We already have too many bosses to properly space out their challenge and drop quality as noticeably higher than the previous tier

Gives you aerialite statigel AND hellstone within 10 minutes like a boss
I agree that Pre-Hardmode already has too many bosses but, its extremely short.
You can literally take out Wall of Flesh withing 30 minutes of starting a run due to how weak and fast the game is at that point.
It doesn't lie in the bosses, its just mainly getting the tools that takes so short.

I will remind you that a starting calamity player will prob take a good bit to go through pre hardmode
If you speedrun to the last prehm boss it won't last very long
It does lie in the bosses with the main offenders being the evil bosses
On my first run, i completed Pre-HM in like, 45 minutes
Also the average player isnt just gonna skip prehardmode to fight the wall of flesh
that's on you
Hardmode took me a total time of 30 hours
truly the best solution here is to remove most of calamity's bosses 
replace every boss with grinding for the next material

If we move Evil2, we have to either move Aerialite with it, or make it spawn from a different boss that is thematically worse than Evil2

crab and deer are both ass nothing bosses too with practically no relevance in progression so using them to flesh out a tier that cal clearly wants to exist (evil1 and evil2 are seperate tiers on class setups) feels like the best idea
and making perf/mind drops actual upgrades to previous evil drops makes them feel less
duplicative
Meanwhile I already struggle to understand how one meaningfully 1ups evil tier when it gives access to hellstone which is essentially top tier and starts clashing with early HM

I could see Hellstone being pushed back by a bit, but that defeats the point of unnerfing Reaver Shark

it really doesn't? each tier usually has about two optional bosses (ex; king slime and DS pre-Eye, qb and skele pre-WoF [at least in vanilla], levi and aureus pre-Golem, duke and empress pre-Cultist [in vanilla])
also the upgrades would still be weaker than molten or statigel (100%), and would be weaker than aerialite (which could just be bumped to 80%)
