Im debating the purchase of a GoXLR but im not sure i am willing to spend over $500 for the sort of thing W4sted has, so im looking around to see what people recommend and why lower down on the price brackets, if there are decent options down there of course.

I believe w4stedspace would have an opinion...

Depends on what you are using it for

#

A basic ADC goes for like 50 and is plenty good if you just want to record

I am looking for audio control, sample playback options, maybe some channel manipulation like the ability to unify channels to say, play sound from a song through my microphone channel as just an example

The go XLR is two things in one. It is a digital audio interface/soundboard, and it is also a software package. The features you described are all software, with the GoXLR itself only providing really a physical interface. In that regard there is no alternatives in lower price classes (as far as I am aware).
However there are some purely software based setups that give you that sort of functionality. The most common would be voicemeter

Seems a few extra options have come out that may do what you want since I last looked
Roland bridge cast
Razer mixer
BEACN Mix

Interesting. Something i will definitely keep in mind and explore further. For options sake and futureproofing, as well as pure curiosity's sake i still want to explore hardware options even if i dont end up making a purchase

The thing to note about hardware options is that they are not actually hardware options. The only thing they are doing is acting as physical buttons

#

Well 99% of what they are doing is acting as physical buttons

Physical buttons make my fingers happy 😄

#

Another reason i cant justify ultra expensive physical buttons lmao

You can use a MIDI controller as a physical interface to control voicemeter, but that can get meessy very fast
