Hey everyone, I’ll be starting my first year in Computer Science at a private university. Is it possible to switch to a public university for my second year? Will there be any student visa issues with that? I don’t mind starting over from the first year, but I’m hoping my credits will transfer over. Thanks!

A public university would need to recognize your credits from a private university. They might do that, but I have never heard of such a an occurence

They do that. But it will take a while. I know a person who did this, and it took about a whole year of the public university to finally say which credits are recognized and in which subjects. During the new first semester he'd get an email every week "btw algebra I is not recognized, you can take that course again as well", and he ended up getting back 40 credits out of 210. You basically just apply regularly, but at the same time send the responsible people for this course a mail with your TOR and ask for recognition, and which courses you'd have to retake.

The issue is, that he also needs to apply for that public university. If he didn't get accepted the first time, it's unlikely he get accepted after a year in a private university since the criteria hasn't changed
