#How's life in Munich (Bavaria) for immigrants?

Munich is among the most expensive cities for living. If you want prices for a room directly check WG-Gesucht or Kleinanzeigen and you'll get a good first impression in regard to what you actually want. We can't know your requirements (living alone? Need a separate bedroom away from kitchen? Has to be on ground floor? How close to the center / university do you wanna live?)

I can give you statistics: the avg price per sqm is currently 22 euro. Which means if you find a room of eg 10sqm, in a flat that you share with two other people where community rooms (bathroom, balcony, kitchen...) are 30qm, you'll pay for 20qm, which means 440 Euro COLD. Cold means without internet, tax, energy, water etc...

For those extra costs it heavily depends on how old the building is, how much energy you consume, your contracts etc, I'd say another 150 Euro.

Websites often have only the Kaltmiete. Even if they include a "warm rent", it'll one be necessities, water trash and energy, but it's your job to get internet and pay tax as well.

For work it definitely helps to speak German as (I assume) you don't have any relevant degree yet. That means you'll get minimum wage in random jobs that formally only require language - maybe a waiter in a restaurant, or working in a supermarket, cleaning. I have no information about the job market in Munich, but I assume it's highly competitive due to many many broke students being there. You can also generally only earn 520 euro per month as a student.

Other costs to consider are food (150+ depending on how much you eat outside or cook at home)
Insurance (50-120 dependant on what kind of you want, private or public)
Semester fees and transport (50-100)

Rent is probably more like 700 minimum warm for a 20 sqm apartment/room, if you're lucky. It's usually higher.

reviving this thread to ask- is munich diverse and friendly to immigrants? i've heard various things about it.
