Does anyone know a good book (in English) about German history covering the period from the around middle/end of the 19th century to near the present?

I would assume most books on German history would cover that time period. You could - generally speaking - just pick any one and just ignore the parts before the mid 1800s - even though you'd miss a lot of background information that way, like you would for most countries.
Do you want a general overview? Or an in-depth explanation of one or more particular topics? Answering these questions to yourself might help you get something that's fit for your interests/circumstances.
