I’m currently getting a bachelors in English and was thinking abt applying to a German university for my master’s. Here we have the MLIS (masters of library science) which is helpful to become a librarian so I’m wondering if there is an equivalent qualification for librarians in Germany? I want to work in archives or maybe university libraries. Just wondering if anyone knows.

In Germany library studies are combined with information management and offered as bachelor and master programs at some unis. To see if you can even do a masters in this field you’d probably have to compare your bachelors you’re doing now to the bachelor programs at the unis to see if you can qualify for a masters or not. In other words, you’ll have to google some masters programs and look at their admission rrequirements (usually something like “you need this many credits in (math, IT, etc).” Germany has what they call consecutive masters programs, so with an english degree you may not qualify for a master’s in library sciences there unless you can prove you also had specific library/information management modules in your bachelor studies close enough to what their library bachelors typically have
