brauchen und benötigen, gibt’s einen Unterschied?

„benötigen“ means “need” in the way “I need X to do Y”. „brauchen“ could mean that same thing, but it could also mean it in the way “I need this drug” or “I need you”. „benötigen“ is very much object-focused. Du kannst ein Werkzeug benötigen, aber keinen Menschen. „brauchen“ doesn't really have this restriction.

"benötigen" also sounds more formal, at least to me. "brauchen" is a more basic verb I'd expect to hear in everyday convos
