Yes, both have great food.
There is so many good restaurants opening
Also we will get a Hans im Glück
😮
I hate that place, but good for the city
to get some action
not much tourism in Augsburg
What's there to see ?
The oldest city in germany?
Museums?
Rathaus/Perlachturm, Fuggerei, Roman excavations.
Churches
Glaspalast
Augsburg is Germany's third oldest city, but yea it's old xD
Schätzlerpalais?
It's not entirely settled what's older
Mozarthaus
The Synagogue?
yea maybe some people visit, simply because it's 40 minutes away from Munich 😄
One of the few Synagogues in germany not destroyed
Didn't know that
Botanischer Garten
It's really great, they also have lots of concert in it.
The garden
I'm gonna visit again at some point
I'm not that far away
maybe when they finish working on the Hbf
I heard you guys are getting a Ubahn
or underground station
and a new dunkin donuts
it opened exactly the same week I left the city
like a year ago
way less than a year..last summer
Yeah, already had some there.
@tight kelp I come from a town / small city in England we don't really get demonstrations and I don't go outside much either
I see ^^
If anyone knows about this, I have a question.
I might be wrong about this, but in the case of Studienkollegs (Stk), there are some (state-run or private) Stk that you can directly apply to and some that you can't, right? With regards to the latter, I've read certain universities direct you to a certain (affiliated) Stk when you apply for them (like FU Berlin, for example, an application there would direct you to Studienkolleg an der FU Berlin), should your secondary school leaving qualifications do not qualify as an equivalent to the Abitur. I was wondering if you can just apply to a Studienkolleg (that allows direct application), and then freely choose an unaffiliated university, perhaps on a different city/state from the Stk that you attended to when you finish your Stk course.
Again, I might be wrong with my first assumption. So I'm wondering if I still need to inquire and apply to the university/ies of my liking, before they redirect me to a Studienkolleg after reviewing my qualifications, or if I can just have a Studienkolleg of my liking that I can choose.
Thank you! And sorry for such a long post. 😁
You can't apply directly to SK if it's not private. You must apply to a Uni and then they might tell you that you need to study in SK first.
I see. Thanks Foxxerl!
yea it's always better to do things through the uni or uni-assist and they'd tell you what's next
A quick question,
According to the DAAD standards, I’m only able to go to a major that is related to what I study now (last semester)
I have to double check with universities’ international students office that my current major is fine for them. I got my English transcript but they didn’t give me an internship description paper (medical sector)
Is it too important? Afterall I won’t be studying the same thing and it's not an application right now anyway
Where at in Germany do the people speak the least English?
General English proficiency is high in the urban areas, but the former GDR-regions still lack lag a little behind when it comes to that
haha whoops
I knew that
I promise
What an amazing sentence to fuck up on too

"Haha look at those Ossis, they no even speak the English"
on some days i question whether americans even speak english
i certainly wouldn't call the geräusche that fall out my mouth english
Well Americans have their own dialects too
infact! american regional dialects are becoming more apparent.
i.e the emerging PNW dialect
That's just lazy people talking
if the lazyness is cultural enough to surface into regional speech, it deserves to be called a dialect
i've got an on-topic question
or two:
how much can one expect to be paid for an Ausbildung (let's say in programming)?
I've also seen that they can span a lot of time (three years). Can one/is it normal to opt out after a bit if one finds a better opportunity?
Most Ausbildungen pay between 600€ and 1000€ (at least for those you start right after school).
Yes, a good amount of people change their Ausbildung before finishing it, but i don't know a lot about how that works.
is it too late to start an ausbildung around 25 yr old? :'D
it's never too late to start studying
you can always start an Ausbildung afaik
this seems like a super dumb question, but I'm trying to buy a mop and I'm having quite a hard time finding what I want. all I can find are "Klapphalter" style mops, but I've tried them and they're terrible. the cloths you have to use fall off the entire time you're trying to mop. what I really want is something like this, but I have no idea what to call it in german in order to even order one: https://mobileimages.lowes.com/product/converted/071798/071798723655.jpg
lol
And if you're having a hard time cleaning with one of these, it might just be that you have a shitty model, because i've never seen anything else used here. I've also never had problems using one tbh.
the one I've used came from Rossman. I'm not sure if the cloth is ill-fitting or what because it's not better than just crawling along with a bucket of hot soapy water and a hand towel
I guess I'll just have to buy a different one
are you in Germany rn?
yep
thank you!
just search for mop and stuff like this will come up
I mainly hadn't checked amazon because you can't pay with paypal
i pay with paypal all the time 🤔
how?
Ah no, you're right
I pay with a regular bank account
if you wanna search on other stores try searching for Schleudermop
thanks for the help! I'm just gonna stop being lazy and add my bank account to amazon
When did Amazon have PayPal?
@silent pilot id day between 400 and 1000
wat
Ah ok
What do people think of weed in Germany?
what kind of answer do you expect?
Like is it seen as something bad like other more dangerous drugs or are people more accepting of it
So its the same as almost all over the world, what if its used as a treatment, are there different policies for that?
which is that :^)
gr = grams?
yes
FUCK YEAH THURINGEN 😎
what's KE?
People who are doing their bachelor in Germany, how do you manage to study German study for uni, work and have a social life?
Especially the money part
You have to have C1 to study (unless its an English program but those aren’t so common) and if you’re not a eu citizen, you have to have 700€/month in a blocked bank account
I have a citizenship
But that’s how they manage to study
you can work part time, get a scholarship
howd you get german citizenship?
or live of your family's money
Ofc working part time was the idea, I just wondered how do people manage all of that
Like having no choice is a boost obviously lol
They don’t have to manage all of that
it depends on how much you wanna study, work or have a social life
(and how good you are at time management or how smart are you or how well you study)
If your social life = study groups then you kill two birds with one stone.
How hard is it finding a job if you're not C1 yet?
depends on what you want to do
Or live in a dorm => social life
That's actually crossed my mind Base
What's a teaching assistant? :o
What does a teaching assistant do?
depends on what field :P
like you know institutes in unis do science and shit
you could be the one managing the IT for them, making web pages or upgrading their equipment
Would you know about chemistry? :D
or you could actively help them in researching stuff
or you could become a tutor for them teaching shitty students
But I assume it's hard to get the job? There's only so much open positions for that
eh, if you are quick and not stupid
you can get one pretty easily
they all search for assistants every semester
I doubt I could become a TA with my shitty german
I see
you can go into lab stuff if your german is not fit for tutoring
i can't say much about chemistry
but pretty sure they also need people doing the dirty work

Or just get better at German.
I have money for 2~ years but I'm planning on finding a job asap
Working on it 👌
btw, becoming a teaching assistant (may it be as a tutor or in research) is really helpful in getting some contacts
notes down
you will be actively working with either the prof or people who are doing their PHD
That's good yeah
and if it's a field you are interested in... you can learn some stuff :)
teaching assistant jobs are not the most reliable, since they are only valid for one semester
but most research assistans stay for longer
Is it possible to take some language courses? Like in Israel taking a second language is a must in a lot of places
or admins
It is, most unis offer them
pretty much every uni offers language courses
Cool!
my uni did german, french, spanish, italian, russian, japanese and chinese
for example
but if you are working and want a social life, languages might be difficult as an extra
Oh I see
it's doable
How speak jp, oded?
Well who needs social life anyway
but if you already have to study from the morning on
sometimes you don't really want to go to uni again in the evening :P
Oh dang sorry
languages are not part of the normal cs curriculum
You speak Japanese?
but they can be added
also you can't take "easy" courses if your profiency is too high :P
They will notice in the course tho
shrugs
i've heard some teachers offered those people to help them teach
so they don't get kicked out when they noticed
buuut that's all rumours and shit
i don't really know people who want to waste their time for a few credit points
Why would they kick me if I do well? That's pretty counterproductive
you are wasting a slot and time
if you are
for example B2 in japanese
and you partake in a A2 japanese course
Hmm
Makes sense
(presumably)
also really
it's not worth your time to take a course
- where you don't learn anything new
- is boring
But seriously now, if I don't have any certificate, I honestly don't know which level I am at
that's fine if you don't know
They will prolly do tests before starting the semester
if you are in dire need for credits, you can take every shortcut you want
but it's not worth it to "waste" time if you aren't actually interested, imo
The thing is due to mandatory conscription I already start my life relatively late
Which SUCKS
i took some economy classes in my bachelor
and they were fuck easy
and in the end i really regretted taking them
since i retained no useful knowledge at all
would have taken some more electronics classes probably if i knew
oh, oded, don't worry too much about your age
it suuuucks
but... ultimately, as long as you get to your goals
it doesn't matter too much
unless you are on a deadline
I'll also probably be the oldest guy there
:O
i am pretty sure you are not that old yet
Not that old
was really cute
he couldn't work anymore due to some kinda physical handicap
and his family was super busy
and he was so bored at home
he decided to study cs
:D
That's really admiring
i was concerned about my age too when i started uni
no lie here, oded
but the longer you study and as long as you have your goals
it became less important to me
i mean shit, when i started uni
i started with some 17 year olds
when i was 17, i was still in school
:<
If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you, oded?
21 currently
lunerd is 45
but really, studying takes a lot of time anyway
and when you are studying, caring about others becomes so unimportant
Time isn't a problem Lunerd(hoooopefully)
Nothing really matters
But yeah I get you
👀
he is a professor doctor doctor
it takes a lot of time
to become a professor doctor doctor
Maybe he’s just smart

nah cant be true
just studious
12 nowadays
but they are thinking of increasing it back to 13
lol
cause the workload was too much for 12 years
13 years dammit
are universities in germany free as they say in the news?
Same here rip
me must hurry up tho, so hello hannover kek
You pay around 100-200€ for a semester afaik
(unless you are a non-eu citizen and wanna study in Baden-Württemberg, then there are study fees)
it depends on the uni
hmmmm okie
i paid about 300€ each semester
I'm so glad I have a citizenship :phew:
cause i had an extensive travel ticket included
is 300euro per semester considered cheap or no
eh, it's more on the high roll
hmm k
i think "usual" fees are about 200€
are the universities in general good?
yes
In Israel a uni year is about 2500€
ye and everyone has a small scholarship
yup, i get around 100$ rn
^
smh if i get paid for studying expect those A's rolling in.
Wtf
most people i know get lazy because of that
🤔 wait true.
but wanna know a kek luna
I would studdy erridai
sure, give me a kek, foxxo
the kek is a lie
some of my classmates who are very very stupid, they pay like 300k rubles in a year what is 4300 euro

300k lol
my classmates are very stupid
2500€ a year is normal here
Private colleges can be even higher
rich people
they 500€ semester fees a few years ago were evil :<
wtf
he, it was pretty funny, when the study fee in my state got abolished, the entrants to cs nearly tripled
if i wanna go study in germany i would have to pay
- flight
- housing (appartement)
- food
- admin fee
- krankenverschierung
- whatever more
i dont come from a rich family
money is like
very few
so
it's not always cheaper to go to germany to study
You can get a wg for 250-300€/month
still expensive 😠
if i wanna go study in germany i would have to pay
- flight
- housing (appartement)
- food
- admin fee
- krankenverschierung
- whatever more
this is all around 800 euro in a month
That’s the cheapest option tho...
which is not a lot tbh
also really depends on the city again
Rp. 12000000 in my currency
like ahhaha, you never gonna get a "nice" wg for 300€ a month in munich
but you can in hannover
there are no wgs for 300€ a month in Munich
You dont get anything cheap in munich tho
it's even hard to get one in Cologne
my brother used to pay like 500€ for one room in a multi tennant apartment
nemo i will live with you
and the room was fucking small

i don't have a place yet either
but it was close to the inner city
im not going into a special place rn
for about 500€ you can get a small apartment for yourself in hannover
how bout berlin
you want to study in aachen?
berlin is pretty cheapish
but news are, the housing prices are rising lately
because everyone wants to go to berlin
i wish i was born in quicker
Wooow suzu
more people = more joy
Bachelor
woooooow
But i need to take a year off to get to C1
same
Aren’t you c1?
well my year off is almost ended
OH
yeee 7 months
and im in germanyyyy
wohooo
Ayyyyyyy
if it get c1 im gonna write a book
kek
I’ll be going to germany for my gapyear tho c:
Start preparing then lol
whats a gapyear
where do you live omfg
Czech Republic, why?
i nEED a GaPyEAr
ohhhh
it's voluntarily
if you can manage that
a lot of people take breaks from studying
i took a break from studying too - you just need something to not get homeless in the mean time
Some people take a break to gain work experience so that’s like killing two birds with one stone
Just move to germany, open a yt channel, vlog like your life depends on it, earn fat staxx
Ezpz
i dont think you make that much money with vlogging
Well if you get to the tens of thousands of followers like some vloggers have you might
Or open up a Gofundme
You can make money with enough followers but not if you rely on adsense only, you'll have to get sponsors and product placement
"Since so many of you guys have been asking what product I use for x, here's a list of them"
also be a attractive or be a girl
but cant you just work at mcdonalds or wendys
what's the minimum wage in germany?
Yeah you need boobs
3 bottle caps, a candy bar and a pen, Creb.
8.84€/h
work 22.6 hours for 200 euro :^)
Is that enough to live?
no
😂
you gotta double it
22.6 hours in one week, 4 weeks like 800 euro nan?
thats plenty
You also have limits to how much you can make if you're a foreign student
- If you come from one of the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or the United Kingdom
►You are allowed to work as much as you wish without a work permit. However, like German students, the amount may not exceed 20 hours per week. Otherwise, you are required to pay into the German social security system.
I come from Indonesia 😢
120 full days or 240 half days 🤔
Good luck trying
maynot exceed 20 hours per week
rip the 22.5 hours/200 euro calculation
well 2 hours begging on the streets
freelance won't count tho right, I think I have asked this question before?
As in?
design logos :^)
Selling game assets online
or wordpress sites
is that even legal
Nah
it is if you design them
no i mean, selling game assets
Yeah?
yes
I sell my pixel art
is krankenverschierung really necessary omfl
game assets as in models, textures, sounds and stuff like that
yes
A Krankenversicherung is necessary
why god why
because it's important
whats that?
damn
International students from other countries are allowed to work 120 full days or 240 half days per year. They are not allowed to be self-employed or work as freelancers.
good life man :^(
You don't need health insurance if you don't have health. Simply die to avoid paying it.
I dont think I have known anyone in my life who had it, but I live in the third world
Because people would use it for tax evasion
focc gorman gubmint
How would they know if someone has been working as a freelancer 🤔
Do you know how freelancing works and what taxes are?
you can have a separate paypal acc that you use on freelance sites
i see
what's so wrong about trying to make more cash if you're a student
You also need to apply for a tax number (not a tax ID number) and specify whether you are self employed or an actual freelancer
i guess you just need to save from now 😉
Self employment and freelancing are two different things
Like doing things on contracts?
Freelancing requires an academic degree of some sort whilst working as a self employed person falls under the terms of owning a business, for example
If you evade taxes you commit a felony for illicit employment
(evade taxes by not having a registered business)
But freelancing has to be more than X amount of money each month no?
Making 20 dollars a month isn't really work
unpaid freelancing is a thing too
But can you really call that beying self employed when you make inconsistent amounts of money or none at all some months? 🤔
it's not self-employment
Freelancing then
Doing unemployed freelance work is very common for people in creative professions, e.g. writers, artists etc.
I know but there a difference between making 800$ freelancing and 20$
sure, but freelancing doesn't have to do anything with how much you get paid
I mean, there are unpaid internships too - you'd call those work too.
I see
@civic sail oh hey, neighbour. When are you planning on going to Germany to study?
Coincidentally I’ve also been reading about student jobs in Germany. So non-EU like us only have 90 8-hr days max per year to work as a student. Though I’m unsure how much the minimum wage is exactly, I’ve read you could at least get paid for €6 per hour. So you’ll still earn a relatively good amount per month in addition to the financial support you’d be getting from family or whatnot.
The 120 full days 240 half days are for foreign students that are part of EU, I think. Non-EU internationals will have to go with 90, 180.
I haven’t verified but for a huge (and relatively expensive) city like Munich, student jobs apparently pay more too, I’ve read. Of course the average expenses are also higher
probably a long time in like 5 years 😂
i dont attend goethe though
or 1 and a half at least
i really want to attend goethe but my mom persists on me learning french on sat 1 pm - 5 pm
i don't have any other free time other than that 😦
but ofc formally studying for it should be faster, I guess
are you still in high school?
class studies have this syllabus, i dont know where to start and with what to proceed
junior high school
Hm, I just use the typical language apps most people start with, and watch videos when I can. And I have the pdf resources and for the most part they take me step by step properly. I only started taking the language seriously earlier this month and I think it'll be sufficient for me in the long run
but you have five years as you say, so don't worry about it :D
I'm not entirely sure, but I think someone got here to B2 or at least C?? in 1 year. I'm not sure if they self-studied or not though
but I think it's doable
it depends on the amount of time you'd be willing to spend in learning the language, and that comes with interacting with other people to build yourself up
if you're learning French at the same time then perhaps it's gonna be just a bit longer, but I don't think it would take 5 years to learn
I've been learning German last year, a bit casually, and then I stopped at some point.
i said to my mom "mom B2 in french is enough"
but she's like
"no must get to C2!!!"
I'm planning on taking the testdaf later this year when they're available in the Philippines
Good luck with that
great
why does your mom want you to take french?
meh idk
also on another note
just wish yourself luck that your target schools/unis and their respective states do not change tuition policies for non-eu students in five years' time
ah french, a key part of the north american language trifecta;
english french spanish
baden changed theirs very recently and it's possible that other states might do, too
honestly i dont know which univ im gonna attend to
but probably engineering or biotech something
you gotta have a course in mind ready
yeah, I have those in mind too
I'm huge on STEM and would choose between S and E at this moment
cool
an overlap on bio/chem/engineering/physics would be cool
are you in high school?
hmm actually no, I graduated high school like... five years ago. I spent 4 years in uni until I decided to drop out in my 4th because reasons
also you know how shit the education system in southeast asia is
except for Singapore
lul
UI is good though, I've heard
But yeah the overall education in Southeast Asia from what I know and have heard from others is just... subpar I guess. Though like I said, Singapore is really good. But we're improving I suppose
"I'm not entirely sure, but I think someone got here to B2 or at least C?? in 1 year. I'm not sure if they self-studied or not though"
me did it
and i had private teachers
but its just a lot of work tbh
the hardest part is A1-B1.2
dude
then it goes smoothy
is your priv. teacher expensive or smth
i was lucky and the teacher that helped me to reach B1 was a friend of mine who helped me gratis
but after she left my city, i had quiet expensive teachers
but it worth it
i can see dat
I met my first German friends on ARK when I was still in uni, and it sort of got me started into Germany in general
though I've been a fan of their football team before the 2014 World Cup
One of them was an international student from Brazil, so I'm inspired by him. So if I ever needed anyone to talk German with I'm pretty much set
my girlfriend is also learning German so it's even better
I guess pretty much as soon as you have most of the grammar settled you just have to deal with vocabulary and usage for the most part after that
yeah probably
Idioms are very important as well
Hardest part is definitely from A1 to B1 I think. After B1 you just need to kind of start living the language, and it takes a lot of time I think. Less studying, but you need to absorb a lot, which takes so much time especially when you don't live in the country. Also grammar drills and such. I believe really the main difference between B1 and B2 is that B1 is knowing about the grammar rules and B2 is applying them fluidly and internalizing them. Then vocab is obviously a big difference too, but after B1 you should be getting vocab from native materials already I think
I can't speak personally for German, but thats what I've found with other languages
I was actually watching a ted talk that explains this phenomenon if you want me to send you the link
Yeah
why is A1-B1 the hardest
It isn’t. It should be the easiest.
By hardest I mean the most actual studying
After B2 you really should have to study, only absorb material
Takes a lot longer than A1 to B1 though.
Also much more frustrating, because progress is slower
At the beginning stages, you definitely see progress, where as later on its harder
Then maybe it becomes more organic
Im talking about learning from abroad
It’s no wonder we have learning plateaus around b2
C1 to c2 will def be the hardest
Yeah
I know some people who have gone from B1 to B2 in a month or so though, I don't know how credible they are though
Some people take the B1 test when they are really B2, and other way around
Yeah
That happens too
hey guys, i feel like you should move this convo to another channel 👀
Lack of confidence
yup
its ok, its nice that you guys discuss this c:
When native english speakers speak german, do they have a noticeable accent?
unless they work on it
How worthwhile is it to learn German and Latvian? I am going to move to Latvia in about 4-5 years with citizenship and I plan to attempt to use my EU citizenship to go to Germany, is that good planning or nah
Or should I focus mostly on Latvian
Do you get an eu citizenship by moving to latvia?
i reckon he/she's already got latvian (eu) citizenship
Not yet, but I can get it incredibly quick
I'm from WW2 refugee heritage and they give it to descendants
@exotic barn @rose cedar (And I assume I get the EU stuff since Latvia is an EU country)
Yeah, just tryna figure out how to go tbh
Ic
Russian is too ugly for me, but I quite like German etc
But Latvian is like slavic and odd haha
If you plan on moving to germany, you should def learn german
For sure, is it easier to move to Germany from an EU country?
then it is from America?
And a bit latvian for büro stuff
Oh I'm certain of it
You can move freely
Oh lit
Without anything
don't need to muck about with visas and the like
Hardest part will be finding employment and living arrangements I think
But you have to pay latvian insurance i guess
Oh damn, yeah I'll ditch Latvia as fast as possible haha
Or german one but that’s prolly more expensive
Do you actually have to move to Latvia to get the citizenship?
Then learn latvian too i guess
Ah. I think I'm elligible for Israeli citizenship on a similar grounds (jewish blood) but I'd have to live there for a certain number of years
and I'm not super keen on that at the moment
For sure, just wondering if I should push Latvian more then German since I'm tryna go closer to Germany
ehhh israeli seems meh
Aren't they at war?
Probably
or at least conflict
I don't really know how you should prioritize, sorry 😦
But thanks, I wish high school offered more then German, Spanish, and french hahaha
From what I know Latvia got assfucked by different languages during and after the world wars
so they have lots of Germans. Russians, and some Americans, so I might just be able to get by haha
Who is at war?
And if you can prove jewish origin you have the right to come to israel @rose cedar
Oh yeah
Feels pretty sketchy for me to move to a country with conflicts so close
Israel is pretty safe regardless
Ah ok
it's more just that i'm more interested in moving to switzerland/austria/germany
Same here
Same
I've gotten dissatisfied with America lately
I grow more eager for Europe very often
You should learn at least the basics if the lang of the country you’ll be living in. My friends often complain that people don’t really speak English in germany and in czechia so I expect latvia to be the same. (Young people do know english but you’ll have problems in daily life like in shops etc.) @spice bluff
You will really want to work on losing the American accent. People in Germany will switch to English as soon as they detect one (if they know English. That might vary depending where you move to)
I have a question to foreign people that have transitioned between studying and working in Germany
anybody here like that?
When I visited switzerland at the airport someone was convinced I was japanese 😕 I'm not sure if that's good because I don't sound american or bad because I'm not in any way japanese
You'll generally be well off in Latvia if you know Russian, it was only very recently that the shift went to their own language (public signs, daily conversational language, school curriculums)
When I was there in Latvia people barely knew English, I could easily say young people knows it, old people doesn't. There's no mid point. I was in Daugavpils so I might be a lil wrong if you go to Riga for example
@warped atlas go ahead
In the period where you're transitioning between getting a job and graduation (or actually the Kolloquium to be exact) how do you manage getting a job and getting a home and also your visa at the Ausländerbehörde?
wait
let's go DM instead
You get one year extension on your visa under the status "looking for a job"
Ahh thank you very much, how is Latvia may I ask? @ocean basalt
Chill, quiet, Daugavpils had more elderly people rather than young
So much like my town in the US?
Everyone owns dogs for some reason?
You’re American and I’m from Eastern Europe, asking the wrong guy there ^^
Btw eyes
Do you guys call yourselves southern europe, eastern europe or asian normally?
Or something else
Why asian? lol
They usually go by name, Lunerd.
Unless he's Russian, he won't call himself asian, just eastern Euro
turkey is middle east
It’s technically connecting Europe with Asia at some point, only technically
But in general we go by Asian, geographical majority belongs there
Ah, good
which city are you from, eyes?
Istanbul
I've never heard anyone call Turkey Eastern European 🤔
istanbul is literally both europe and asia
welcome to the world of confused identity, my friend
Hehehe
Is it possible/legal for me as an American for example to go to Germany and open up a crepe stand and work?
Also how does one go about finding a whitelisted job? Or get job offers for that matter
No, not really
Well, you apply for jobs and see if they accept you
And unless you offer a significant advantage for the job offer, you will only get the third-highest priority when being considered
how would it be possible for me as american to relocate to Germany for work/living? any insight or where to get info for it?
Find a Job / marry a German / have enough money to request an investor visa
@half monolith more elaborate info can be found here https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/einreiseundaufenthalt/02-lernen-und-arbeiten
@blazing harbor thanks
I think I remember somebody like Berzi mentioning it before
but what's exactly the difference between having an Arbeitsplatz and having an Ausbildung?
One is being a Mitarbeiter, the other is Azubi
The former you earn a lot more than the latter
and furthermore, what's the difference between a Praktikum and an Ausbildung then?
Azubi is basically an apprentice
You got him for 3 years and you have a Contract saying you'll teach him how to work
An azubi usually also goes to school parallelly where they learn subjects based on their job
After an Ausbildung you're a Fachkraft. After a Praktikum youre a dude who made a Praktikum once.
Praktikum doesnt have to be paid. Ausbildung however pays you a salary
^ I'm gonna assume that Berzi doesn't need to go to school anymore, but then why would one want to go for an Ausbildung if you already have the degree for a normal Arbeitsplatz?
german integration would be my first guess
Cuz they aint gonna teach you german and biology and stuff
When i did my ausbildung, i had subjects like "Betriebswirtschaft", "Steuer-und Kaufmannskunde", "Geschäftspraktiken für Automobilkaufleute" and "Fahrzeugtechnik"
Hmmm
I'm gonna assume you had BWL, Erik
but let's say it's me, studying Informationstechnik
or Bachelors would be Informatik
You dont do an Ausbildung while you do school, you do an ausbildung After you graduated
There are no ausbildungsberufe after Bachelor/Master
you go to school
oh wait
When you say AFTER you graduated
you mean, after Duale Hochschule?
or?
No
Abi?
Im talking class 10 when youre 16 and just had sex for the first time and logan paul is still cool
Abitur is when you wanna go after Gymnasium to Uni
welcome to the german school system
Doesn't mean you're obliged to do that. All paths remain possible, regardless of school type
Hrrmm....that still makes me confused on why @tight kelp is doing an Ausbildung, instead of a normal Arbeitsplatz....
yeah @blazing harbor
I thought I read from a German text while studying my DSH, that the current education system in Germany allows people to basically do any path regardless of age
instead of being stuck doing Handwerk stuff just because they never did Abitur
Because nobody will hire lets say a web designer without them having proven that they learned how to be a web designer
I did Abi and am currently in Handwerk. Where is your god now?
poor choice of example
LOL
people will hire anyone as a web designer
How can you be Webdesigner without any textilerfahrung
I apologize Erik, but that's basically what I got from the text
Webstühle sind kompliziert
You can do your Ausbilding for example and then once finished, you could go to the BOS, get your Fachabitur to study at a Hochschule or go on to do the allgemeines Abitur and go on to study at a university. There are endless possibilities
Yes Sims
ausbildungen mostly prepare for a certain job
that's what I learned from the text as well, though the exact detail eluded me
Who would you hire to watch over a car workshop. Someone who studied mechanical engineering for 3 years or someone who worked on cars and learned all about cars for 3 years?
you don't learn for a job studying in university
let's say I am that student
How am I supposed to get a job as a Mechanical designer at Mercedes Benz for example?
if let's say I did my BA at the school?
Study mechanical engineering. Thats an engineer job
Or you did a Technischer Produktdesignerausbildung
We dont force everyone into uni for every job
if you study mechanical engineering, you prove that you are supposedly able to handle a wide variety of possible engineering stuff, albeit in the future after getting experience
if you do an ausbildung, you get ausgebildet for a certain kind of engineer
Gtg break over
and you can "only" do that kind of engineering job
also you provide immediately value after finishing your ausbildung
Na engineering is Uni only, Lunmar
Hmmm, okay
NO IDEA DUDE
thanks eriku
let's say it were possible
someone finishing an ausbildung has immediate value and impact
since he is used to the skills and tools necessary for the job
(hopefully)
you got trained for a certain line of work, and got some experience doing it while you study
whereas a student will need time to get to learn all the required things
they don't hire students for "immediate" impact, but for long term improvement
I see
Ausbildung is mostly handwork/trade jobs
Okay, I also gtg, thanks guys
another example in case you read it later
take computer science
you can make an ausbildung to fachinformatiker for systemadministration or something
and you then can become a sys admin for a job offer
but you will have a hard time becoming some other kind of informatiker, unless you can prove it easily
like becoming a network specialist or it-security specialist
whereas if you have completed university, you can apply for each of those things, since it "can" be expected, that you are able to learn on the fly
generally tho
people with degrees and people who do an ausbildung will choose different jobs anyway
Ye
just keep in mind that those examples don't usually apply for IT/programming 😅
There arent many (if any) jobs that look for people who did an ausbildung or Uni
b/c people will hire anyone
IT is a bit iffy, since a lot can be self-taught
Ye we dont talk IT we talking people who work!
genau hahaha
lifts car batteries
you just have to prove somehow that your self-taught stuff is enough
clears sweat off brow
it's just way easier with work experience, or a completed degree or fachausbildung
@warped atlas because I'm not that confident in my abilities and because I can't find anyone who wants to hire me .-.
what do you do @tight kelp ?
programming
oh
but everyone asks for people with experience, my cv can't have experience if nobody wants to hire me first
any kind, for now xD
web?
desktop apps
windows. I can also do web design but I don't like it that much
ai :o
I've been wanting to learn machine learning, will start experimetning with it soon
i want to widen my portfolio but it'll take time. I need to pay rent until then
yeah
Contribute to an open source project, do a job related to what you want to do, or use the fake it till you make it approach
@sick imp what's the language proficiency for Tu
TU Wien?
@undone gyro You can apply with B2, but you need C1 by October
Source: I spammed them with questions
What do you mean October
What if she's joining in the summer semester? 😛
If you're dedicated it won't
So I just read a new letter from TH Campus Wien and they also require only B2 for bewerbung
Btw for German unis it's a bit different
I'd highly recommend already having a certificate by the time you apply.
If you apply for a NC bachelor you need to have C1 for bewerbung but some unis accept B2 and even B1. If you apply for a nicht Zulassungsbeschränkt bachelor, you need to have B1 for bewerbung and c1 for zulassung.
I think generally if you are capable of doing a degree, you are capable of getting C1 in a reasonable period of time.
How much time do you have and what do you want to study?
Then say bye to your dream
Then meme with us in German and we'll provide you with lots of cookies and hugs.
Tbh the best way for you is to choose a not zulassungbeschränkt course and get B1 by bewerbung, then spend 3 months in Germany and get C1 by zulassung
My age +2
if you want to apply for Wintersemester2018
I took me 1 year to get C1
I gave up trying to apply for something this year
Listen to foxxy, she's an amazing learner
Would be a kek if I don't get C1 certificate

But who cares haha
unis care
not sure how relevant this is but I plan to at least be B1 or B2 at the end of the year just by self-studying, because I'm anticipating I'll get into a studienkolleg when I apply in Germany anyway (instead of going straight into uni) and afaik most stks require a b2
sharcc wants to attend in Austria?
I'm very curious as to your method, fox
