@hot cloak I didn't. I grew up and lived in germany for 11 years until I moved out of there. Even though it has been 7 years, I kinda kept my german alive. The reading and listening part require a lot of caution and deep understanding of the text but definitely doable if you manage to exactly understand what a sentence is implying. imo the easiest part. Listening was tough imo, you only get repetition for the first 2 text. Listening to german podcasts can be a good way because they speak slowly and clearly just like in the exam. Felt a bit more difficult than the reading part. I think I did very well on the writing part but apperantly it was only worthy of a 4 Search for some examples of the writing part in the exam and ask for help around. People on this discord have been very useful! And now for the speaking part, oh boy was it a disaster. I would have never thought they would be giving me a free 4 points on that one. TestDAF has a lot of Modellsätze on their website. Every question from 1-7 is something very specific. So you can learn the structure and which sentences to use for each question and fill in the details during the exam in your mind.

the phonetic inventory of a language is not unlimited. You can't have enough sounds to make each and every word different, unless you want to open to way to words becoming very long – which happens often in polynesian languages for example, because they have very few phonemes so they need more room for each word to be unique

each time you classify something as critical or non-critical, as you yourself mentioned, it's a subjective thing. There is no reason to believe anyone's subjectivity should apply universally to something that is shared. Language is a bridge between people, it's not any one person's property and no individual can make decisions on it unless they are shared – this fundamentally means that subjective opinions do not matter

(Disclaimer I'm coming only with the experience of broken Indonesian, dodgy German and English here) I think having words a bit longer isn't a big problem as long as they're easily distinguishable.

I only have about a year and a half worth of city bike commuting experience at this point; half a year of which was in the US. That experience taught me in no uncertain terms that drivers will not only not be looking out for cyclists, they will get some sort of sick satisfaction out of being the most massive cunt possible with regards to any and all cyclists they do actually see. Riding in Germany where there are bike paths keeps my bike off the street at almost all times, and I'm happy with that.

You do get the occasional jackass on a moped riding in the bike path on the wrong side of the road, but that isn't too common

If you see something like A1, B2 or C1, these represent the proficiency of a speaker in a language they're not native in, and are called CEFR levels. They are valid for any language, not only German!
Roughly speaking, A levels are beginners and C levels are experts. Remember that CEFR level are self-assessed and indicative!
