Right. So. It's not an actual exercise. More of a thinking exercise just for fun, since you probably haven't done these before. You prooobably won't be able to solve it on your own, at least not right away, so I'll guide you every step of the way, but let you do the actual thinking. And we'll see if you can get it.

Find the value of p which makes px^2 + 4x + 1 a perfect square for every integer x.

Example: px^2 + 12x + 4. If we say p = 9, then we get 9x^2 + 12x + 4. Which is a perfect square for x = 1 (you get 25), for x = 2 (you get 64), for x = 3 (you get 121), and for every other integer as well. Notice that all the bolded results are squares of integers. That's what we're doing in our problem.

So long as you make sure to stay active, regular and consistent I think it's fine to have multiple languages at once. For me it's made easier by having some natural context for each language, but the main thing is to stay active 😊

Yes! That's a fair point 😊 It's hard to dilute your brain with multiple languages at once. If you're comfortable with one you can easily maintain that level by using it actively, but it's far more difficult to learn multiple languages from scratch at the same time

Well there's really not much you can do with that lmao. He takes a formula to define what he means by least squares, and then like you usually do when you look for values where a function takes on the minimal value, he derives it, with respect to both a and b here, since he's dealing with more than one variable. Then, having the two partial derivatives, he sets both equal to 0 to look for that minimum point and just rewrites it to get the sys of equations on the second slide. It's literally just deriving the two equations, not much you can do or understand there, just pure silly calculations.

I'd have to see what you mean by Gauss, since I don't really have experience with the topic and Gauss did a whole lot of stuff. 😅
