So uh, why dich?
How was I seen O_O
Oh, new avatar.
Hi ❤
Flopsel was actively searching for something to take her attention away 😄
Hey bell!
yeah uh people kept commenting on my face so I took off my face
Yeah, true 🤔
Also Hi bell
But eh, looks like that I forgot that auf can take Akk as well
And in this case too because we need it
Ok, any idea when auf would take Dative and when it takes Akk?
Okay so now you know something. Apply it.
Well it would take Akk if it would imply movement or something, or if we have set expressions like that
The sentence is Time, low tide and high tide don't wait on anyone. if you want to give it a try, bell
so wait a sec
thanks henbri ❤
Zeit, Hochwasser und Ebbe warten nicht auf jeden. Look away Bell. 👀
idk
Okay. Now we do some logicstuffs.
Not all men are mortal.
Socrates is a man.
Is Socrates mortal?
Can you call every high tide "Hochwasser"? In Norwegian that's only used when the tide is especially high
Actually I'm wrong 🤔
Truly a shame.
what is sagacity
Her time will come.
Can you both answer my logic question? 😛
It's a way of life, Flöpsel.
what's the question? i haven't seen anything. sticky scroll
Not all men are mortal.
Socrates is a man.
Is Socrates mortal?
🤔
False
🤔
It's propositional logic. I can write whatever I want, you meme.
I know I'm memeing
not all men are mortal means some man is immortal. So we don't know if socrates is mortal or immortal
Correcto.
Well he may be mortal but we don't know.
Yea
However if I wrote "No men are mortal." you'd know that no single man is mortal.
Now do it with symbols
The same applies to your sentence and nicht jeder 😉
Socrates is not necessarily mortal, just like he's not necessarily immortal
None vs not all, basically.
Using logic to explain german, what a sagacious individual.
Yours does form an equally deep sentence though, along the lines of : Don't wait for anyone
inb4: im a sagaciousist
so we need something other than jeder? or we need to move nicht? or use a word other than nicht?
oh! i get it
I think
let me try
when did we start using sagacity?
We need something that means no one instead of not all/everybody. 😄
Zeit, Niedrigwasser und Hochwasser warten keiner auf
Keiner?
Oookay, now we're getting somewhere. 😄
When I used it unironically and I realized that I can't translate portuguese to english and get away with it, but Arrem just memed it and it became the greatest of memes
Though what case does warten auf take?

But it's a real word, Berg
I feel like Arrem has a bot only to do that
Sagacity is my favorite Floop meme. Sagacity and Enton.
Yea but I've never heard of someone using it in english
And it's quite used in Portuguese, at least my meme teachers used it
where does it tell us what case it takes?
jdn = accusative
jdm = dative
Also Floop, even though keiner is fine to use here (when properly declined), it's not the only option. Find another one to practice your dictionary skills. 😛
@red pewter if it has dat. and akk, then it's pretty straight forward, if there's an object that's a person, then it'll represent it like henb indicated, jemanden (jdn) = accusative and jemandem (jdm) = dative
Not even gonna call him by name. Ruthless.
I have no name
😄
A man has no name.
I've been to through the desert on a berg with no name? 🤔
Berg is quite short
through* ain't it?
Correct.
It's fine bell, Arrem is memein you
Zeit, Niedrigwasser und Hochwasser warten keiner auf as a refresher
I am late Bell but this
Lol.

👏 👏🏻 👏🏼 👏🏽 👏🏾 👏🏿
So you wouldn't know this, but the tides are usually refered to as 'Ebbe' for low tide and 'Flut' for high tide
I'm telling you he has a bot that does that stuff
literally Ebb and Flow lol
exactly
okay i'll replace it
...Mine is correct so far?
yeah but idk if it's right

none huh
Or no one, if you're gonna look it up, since none is gonna give you some unreleated results too.
Poor Chucko.
uh stupid question
how does knowing it's akk change keiner :? does "no one" have a gender?
There are no stupid questions. Only stupid memers who don't ask questions.
Hehehe. Everything is declined in German. Even pronouns.
This is the hardest part of German for me
the noun declensions
because English doesn't declinate nouns
Zeit, Hochwasser und Ebbe warten nicht auf niemand. 🤔
You were using keiner, stick to it. 😄
Okay Floop. Now go check if we decline niemand as well. 😛
Zeit, Ebbe und Hochwasser warten keinen auf
(Hint: we totally do)
wtf can we
what
Huh?
Huh, didn't actually know niemand was declined
floops, you double negatived
@red pewter it's Ebbe and Flut
Zeit, Ebbe und Flut warten keinen auf
Ello.
Guten Tag
xD
Hallo ❤
Okay bell. As a last thing, the prepositions usually like to stick around their verbs, unless the verbs get pushed by some other things. So we'd use warten auf keinen instead of warten keinen auf. Since the auf is just a preposition. If we had a verb with a separable prefix like aufwarten (which technically does exist but doesn't mean the same thing), then we'd write the auf at the end. It's important to distinguish between separable prefixes and normal prepositions.
but D:
Good jobbo, ditcher pupil.
Flops, I'd use Ebbe und Flut
mmh okay
https://i.imgur.com/e9FrZwO.png The same meaning as aufwarten.
What we need is wait for sb. or auf jdn. warten. 😄
Zeit, Ebbe und Flut warten auf keinen
Never heard that English expression
Zeit, Flut und Ebbe warten auf niemanden.
That's because you're a viking.
lol what
Okay. Now. Ebbe und Flut or Flut und Ebbe. Fight! 🍿

The sentence is Time, low tide and high tide don't wait on anyone. if you want to give it a try, bell
sentence
exactly ❤
lul
so what is low tide
bell is right ❤
okay it's me
and what is high tide
I flopsed
flops
Floptrop
Zeit, Ebbe und Flut warten auf niemanden. there
can we have checkmarks pls ❤
^
You can have two.
and meh ;u;
yay!
What was the original sentence?
Time, ebb, and flow wait for no one?
You can have one and a cute yellow duck.
DGSGGFG NO ENTON
And Evoli's blood apparently.
The sentence is Time, low tide and high tide don't wait on anyone.
Shall we move on to the next sentence
...🤔
Shall we move to Maths
NO
This one took 3 hours as usual.
What a strange sentence.
I don't feel doing maths today.
3 hours and 9 minutes, to be precise.
no math D: bell is actually great at math
Because I don't know.
@red pewter ooh, you should become flopps' teacher then
Oh if I could be good at math, Bell 😦
How not to suck at math:
- Feel like doing math every day
- Do math every day
^
I'll trade you your german skills for my math skills!

This guy
Who said my German was good e-
Not me.

https://i.imgur.com/sypwvQM.png I'm so sorry. 😂
LOL
Shush or I'll call the enem dude.

lol I must sleep at 2 AM
bell will work hard!
I have a train to catch tommorow
Why does bell talk about her in the third person?
D:

@ocean robin I have an Enton to catch tomorrow
IF ONLY I COULD BE ALONE SOMETIMES MAYBE I'D BE FASTER
I said alone when I work with you with no one who could bother me and I would eventually flop because of them.
who is Virtue
You did nothing wron- oh philosophic sentence again.
this Kryp : the seventh-highest order of the ninefold celestial hierarchy

Eigenschaft tut nicht sitzen unten an dem Tischs vong prima Lords.
wat
😂
So Krypti which mediaeval book are you getting these from? 😛
'Tis an old dusty book of yore that I have as PDF
I'm adapting it though
Not always correctly
Speaking of medieval, I tried out Skyrim in German. A character was addressing his sister as Ihr 🤔
was she royalty?
I think it doesn't have to be royalty, they address everyone like that 😂
maybe just how they did it ye olde zeit
Habt Ihr überhaupt nichts zu tun, holdes Weib?
not everyone usually, but i'd say usually nobility
Humm I see
Tugend sitzt sich zur Tischen der großartigen Herren TIL the word for "mister" is the same as "lord". Great.
Also that "zur Tische" sounds wrong but I can't think of another possibility 🤷
wait
I expected them to use Ihr for situations where you'd use Sie normally but it seems like they just never ever say du
oh christ
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt nicht hin an den Tischen von großartigen Gebeiter
Welp, I have made a flop there.
same
Oh, our sentences are quite different.
Anmerkung:
Die Höflichkeitsform „Ihr“ wird großgeschrieben. Sie entspricht formal der 2. Person Plural des Personalpronomens (ihr). Obwohl das Wort grammatisch eine Pluralform ist, kann es verwendet werden, um sowohl einzelne als auch mehrere Personen anzusprechen.
i agree with needing the ending
hehe
Kannst du mitkommen? (Informal). Können Sie mitkommen? (formal). Könnt Ihr mitkommen? (Pluralis Majestatis)
Didn't know that, maybe I'll play Skyrim in German then
Okay so, first thing
@viscid cape Right, I'm familiar with the concept. I just found it weird that it was used for a sibling
I wasn't very familiar with the concept myself 😂
So, you girls need to come with an agreement
to sit down -> sitzen or setzen?
🤔
wOt
flappy, do you know the difference between setzen and sitzen?
Okay so I love the fact that we both have a mistake here
Tugend setzt sich zur Tischen der großartigen Herren.
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt nicht sich an den Tischen von großartigen Gebeiter
Like korea said, sitzen is to be sitting. It's not an action.
do you wouldn't use hin :?
sich setzen fits the pattern with sich bewegen but not with aufstehen (to stand up). Might be Willkür. :P
@red pewter reflexiv pronouns come as early as possible in sentences
I was proud of my sentence
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an den Tischen von großartigen Gebeiter
@placid heath sich erheben
fak
but seriously, what's hinsetzen used for then :?
English also has this difference, "set" and "sit". But it's "sit down" for some reason 🤔
At, huh...
It's probably the same thing 🤔 I don't know the difference
Tugend setzt sich nicht an der Tischen der großartigen Herren.
why can't I use it :?
ops
You can use it I think
Good try Floppo
would I still need sich then?
let me fix that der
okay
Tugend setzt sich nicht an den Tischen der großartigen Herren.
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an den Tischen von großartigen Gebeiter
Floppo, accusative or dative?
Dative.
Stimmt, I/L-aith, aber das ist ja im endeffekt eigentlich synonym.
Explain
Gebeiter 🤔 Dahell is that
^ 🤔
Who's doing the action?
Well, Virtue in this case
virture lmao
So why does the table's motion matter
gen...?
Genitive would be better, yes
table of great lords....great lords' table?
while yes bell, Genitiv in German is more formal than it is in English
Let me rephrase that.
so while "of" makes it sound more royal in English, "von" does a bit of the opposite in German
If the verb of the subject doesn't imply movement, then it's Dat.
True.
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an den Tischen des großartiger Gebeiter
Now, does sitting down imply movement?
yeah
Akk.
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an den Tischen der großartiger Gebeiter
Then fix it
Tugend setzt sich nicht an die Tische der großartigen Herren.
@red pewter Fix adjective declension
What are these sentences Kryp
I dunno Berg
I KNOW THAT FEEL
@ocean robin Good, it's grammatically correct. Großartig doesn't feel good here though, but I don't know why
\o/
Well at least it's better than toll or prima, Krypti. 😛
lol
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an den Tischen der großartigen Gebeiter
klasse
You'd better remove that definite article
Tugend setzt sich nicht an die Tische großartiger Herren.
So what case do you need?
uh
Flops can do denclension \o/
motion is dative right
what do you mean by dual?
by dual I mean that it can take both cases
@placid heath but it'S reflexive unlike aufstehen , i think aufstehen is jsut a weird one because stehen is not a motion verb on it's own
oh, okay
Oh Rhyw became Laith
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an die Tischen der großartigen Gebeiter
Good, now fix the plural of Tisch
Okay, soviel Ahnung hab ich dann nicht über Grammatik :P
And remove the definite article
Which word should be used for "great"? Can "groß" be used in this context?
@tribal warren people had trouble pronouncing Rhyw
@cold vessel The original sentence says groß
Reiw
Ach so
Mit w das schon fast ins f übergeht, würde ich das sagen
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an die Tische großartiger Gebeiter
großartig is more like "excellent" to my mind
@placid heath hm, ich hätte "rief" oder "riew" gesagt 😄 😛
Because in French you would use that exact word for "great" in this context
@tribal warren I thought as much, but apparently no
Ich hätte ihn vmtl nach dem ersten Tag Reifen genannt weils mir zu blöd wäre :P
Although we have a word for großartig aswell
Was hat bell da falsch gemacht?
We do too, Berg
alles :?
Flops, what did bell do wrong with Gebeiter? :)
Gehts immer noch um das great?
You know that mistake yourself.
@red pewter Check spelling
^
idk to be honest
What parts in that word are prone to misspelling?
Virtue does not sit down at the tables of great lords: Tugend setzt sich nicht an die Tische großartiger Gebieter T_T
😂
