Fix that. ^

wait.

^
or rather what don't they do
they don't do you, chuck
First of all, find out what a modal verb is. 😄
yes
Yep.
✅
now fix your sentence
🎉
is it?
yup
Yeeee
well müssen + tragen
godammit
Hatten [...] zu tragen is not the same as mussten [...] tragen.
but I'd assume you meant that
yes
So can we get the sentence once more?
^
yus
You can do it this time
we all believe in you
This is a really cheesy episode of the Digimon anime
"Wegen der Sonne mussten die Leute in der Stadt Sonnenbrillen tragen."
💯
🎉

and i see ther "lol no there's one left"
Nope, you're good.
yay
I was gonna say "Now find the mistake" just to mess with you, but Casca and Chuck were too fast. 😦
So do you have any questions?
^
Just in case you didn't understand why it has to be that way just yet
Mmmh, not yet
Hey Nico and or Base, would you like to translate a quote into German? ^^
Nico is long gone for haircut.
Oh.
I have one that I think would be quite challenging.
^^
Base is uh. Where is he.
Hopefully in bed.
@opal sequoia
The school class wants to go to Disneyland for the summer school trip.
I think he's translating
^ shameless tagging
Eh?
they were looking for you
omg solet
Translate this into German, Base: First we learn to read, then we read to learn.
Bedtime mister.
You're right, that is a jaden quote
Oh, I was translating, yeah.
I didn't even realise
Pls no Casca. 😦
What you can translate is "North Korea has conducted a major Nuclear Test. Their words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous to the United States....."
People tell me to smile. I tell them the lack of emotion in my face doesn't mean I'm unhappy.

Erst lernen wir zu lesen, dann lesen wir, um zu lernen?
Yep. ^^
Whoa.
Thanks. This was Jawzie's that I translated.
And I see that my attempt is wrong.
Wörte sind blasse Schatten vergessener Namen. Wie Namen Macht haben, haben Wörte Macht. Wörte können Feuer im Gedächtnis der Menschen machen. Wörte können Tränen der steinerensten Herzen abringen.
Almost though.
My personal favourite is this one:
If there is bread winners, there is bread losers. But you can't toast what isn't real. #BreadPeopleLives
But it's a bit weird because I don't know what might be similar metaphors in German.
Or if I used the right translation of words.
"The Fake News is becoming more and more dishonest! Even a dinner arranged for top 20 leaders in Germany is made to look sinister!"

Oh yeah.
also
what was your sentence solet
Worte or Wörter
When you clean out a vacuum cleaner. You become the vacuum cleaner.
#BreadLivesMatter
Which is the right one for this context, Luna?
Worte is the phrases and Wörter is the individual words?
Well you went for a mix, Base. "Wörte" 😛
The school class wants to go to Disneyland for the summer school trip.
Let's doooooo that.
owo
what was the verb for the last sentence, base?
"It's your birthday" Mateo said. I didn't respond. "Are you not excited to be 15" he asked. Reading my book I uttered "I turned 15 long ago".
Genitiv ins Wasser weil es Dativ ist?
Also it's generally explained as

Otherwise => Worte

ah good, base
Oh damn. Rude.
Casca refer back to my picture of Jaden with multiple third eyes. It explains my feelings on this matter.

fix your sentence
Okay that got me. I was laughing so hard
"Die Schulklasse wollen zu Disneyland für die Sommerschulreise gehen."
I don't want you to think because I was born in America that I speak and abide by English grammar. I speak Jaden, indefinitely. [sic]

Rethink that, keeping in mind that Klasse is indeed singular.

Translate them to German.
well, you have to translate
anyway let's use "ich will nach Deutschland gehen" I almost said wollte. Whai.
Look at your sentence, now back to me, now back to your sentence, now back. to. me. Sadly, your sentence is not me. But he can smell like me.
LOL
what
'Is it that'
Your French is showing.
The school class wants to go to Disneyland for the summer school trip.
Somewhere.
okay
Yes, I can see that
Take note, it can be one of two things here.
The second one is a bit obscure though, so nach is the one you want to use here
Zu or nach. 👀
nach
yes
It can also be "ins" (in das), which probably doesn't make sense to you right now.
Since the "land" in Disneyland is a different "land" than the land in Deutschland.
But just ignore that for now, okay?
listen to the smart man

If someone wants to try translating something more difficult: In dealings such as this, where something is put to use, our concern subordinates itself to the "in-order-to" which is constitutive for the equipment we are employing at the time; the less we just stare at the Hammer-thing, and the more we seize hold of it and use it, the more primordial does our relationship to it become, and the more unveiledly is it encountered as that which it is - as equipment.
^ Never use ins for actual countries.
yes lul
👌
ICH WILL IN DIE SCHWEIZ
uuuuh

No, but if there are no mistakes left
Just so we have something to start off of
"Die Schulklasse will nach Disneyland für die Sommerschulreise gehen."

it's alright
Alright.
Just one tiny thing, native Germans would probably rearrange the word order a little bit

Yeee!
Can I join too?
Cool!
I suppose we'll have to find a different sentence for you though
Since you're B and all
Auf der Mauer auf der Lauer sitzt 'ne Wanze.
Okay Flappy, translate this: Litten is a quadruped, feline Pokémon covered with primarily black fur.
The Chuck chucked a chuck with a chuckling chuck, when a chuck chuckedly chucked the Chuck
Well I'm actually A2-B1 my mistake @thick charm
Ooh, Chuck.
Then let's go with "You've probably figured it out by now, but I don't need you anymore." for you, Krank.
Ooooh yay Chuck.
TIL quadruped is spelled with a u.
^^
You just want Flappy to look up some scientific terms, Chuck. 😛
Nah I just copied that straight off of bulbapedia
Du hast es wahrscheinlich bis jetzt geschätzt, aber ich brauche dich nicht mehr?
the second part is good
Okay
"by now" is its own adverb though, you can't translate it like that
wait nvm you could
but "bis jetzt" doesn't fit here
derzeit?
It's more like "already" in this context
"Chuck!" chucked Chuck chuckedly, chucking his chuckèd chuck.
schon?
Du hast es wahrscheinlich schon geschätzt?
"Litten ist ein vierfüßiges, katzenartiges Pokémon mit hauptsächlich schwarz Pels angedacht."
You cannot use "schätzen" here.

case, flaps
schätzen is closer to "to estimate" or "to guess"
^
to figure something out has its own translation
Yeah it's the closest I could get
The word is der Quadrupede, Flappy. ^^
Etwas entdecken?
👀
Right so, entdecken is technically not wrong, but it doesn't really work in this context either. The word you want to be using here is closer to "rausfinden" or "herausbekommen"
Oh, "schwarze" mmmmh wait before it is not nominative
or "über etwas im Klaren sein"
So Flappy, two things here. The first half of the sentence is flawless. Covered doesn't translate as "andenken", there's another word that would fit better here. And as you already figured out, Pelz is not Nominativ.
the case
mit
goddamit
Genau
oh yay
So Krank, knowing these things, would you mind trying it one more time?
Sure
Yes thay mit
aber ich brauche dich nicht mehr is perfect, don't change anything there.
Perfect as in flawless, just so people don't get confused.
Wahrscheinlich has du es schon rausgefunden, aber ich brauce dich nicht mehr
Yup!
Dative.
Yippee!
Nerf autocorrect
mmh so if it's "dem Pels"
Pelz, with a z
wooo
schwarzem?
✅
lol what
^^
And what is the other mistake?
Now what word could you use for "covered" there rather than andenken/angedacht?
Yeah, you're steadily improving.
https://www.dict.cc/?s=covered try this instead
I knew it has something to do with decken!
It's an adjective in this case
kappa
yup, bedeckt would be the word to use here
In German you want this to be a subordinate clause too, so you'll want to use a comma.
good luck
I mean you could try and make it one sentence and it could work, but it feels more natural to have a clear distinction in there.
And yup, it would be close to that
mmmh, let's try that then
Actually
try to make it one sentence
I'm spewing bullshit again
It would feel more natural, but it's probably to difficult for you to translate correctly. You can try it if you want though, not stopping you.
"Litten ist ein vierfüßiges, wo katzenartiges Pokemon mit hauptsächlich schwarzem Pelz bedeckt"?
Where did the wo come from?
nothing
Ah.
"Litten ist ein vierfüßiges, katzenartiges Pokemon mit hauptsächlich schwarzem Pelz bedeckt"
I must be blind, where's the English sentence?
So the thign with this sentence is that no matter how you twist it (while probably still grammatically correct), trying to fit it all into one main clause doesn't really work.
itten is a quadruped, feline Pokémon covered with primarily black fur.
Yeeah.
There are two ways to solve this
Relativsatz
First the easy one with a subordinate clause with das/welches, the second one would be to work a little magic and make it work without a Relativsatz.
@cold vessel Behold: Litten is a quadruped, feline Pokémon covered with primarily black fur
"Litten ist ein vierfüßiges, katzenartiges Pokemon, das/welches hauptsächlich mit schwarzem Fell/Pelz bedeckt ist."
That would work
BUT
THERE'S A BUT
aber
You could also say "Litten ist ein vierfüßiges, katzenartiges Pokemon, hauptsächlich bedeckt mit schwarzem Fell." - which isn't wrong either theoretically but it just doesn't sound great.
You want the Relativsatz there to make it sound good.
The latter one would be the most direct translation though.
...Or turn the whole "mit... bedeckt" into 1 adjective
Oh btw hi guys just back from haircut :p

Ein Mit schwarzem Fell bedecktes Pokemon

Yeah that works as well, true.
Litten ist ein mit hauptsächlich schwarzem Fell bedecktes, vierfüßiges, katzenartiges Pokémon.

yes
That is really strange.
7am is a weird time for a submission deadline.
Yeah
I found out you can play Words With Friends in other languages. I set it to German and learned quickly that my vocabulary is terrible lmao
Practically non-existent, but I guess that's not really surprising
well yes
Looked at my letters and I'm like "I can't make basic prepositions with these!" 😂
I didn't expect to be able to do it, I was just wondering how far I could make it.
What could I have made? Out of curiosity.
what are words like "besonders, deshalb, damals, damit, dafür" called so that I can find more information about them? I mean, what part of speech are they?
thank you, I actually realized like right as you said that, that I could look one up in the dictionary to see what part of speech it was
Ahh, yeah, that's a good idea.
seems like this will be my grammar study material for a couple of hours or at least until I can make more sense of them https://www.lsa.umich.edu/german/hmr/Grammatik/Da/Da.html
Da+Präpositionen ist nicht so schwierig "am Papier," aber ich denke das oft und ich bin meistens falsch
...Hallo.
I'm not, sorry. Busy doing a thing.
Schade.
Besonders and damals are adverbs and have nothing to do with what you want, while deshalb is a conjunction, dafür is a pronominal adverb and damit can be both a conjunction and a pronomial adverb depending on where it is in the sentence.
Those ones that you're looking for are called Pronominaladverbs or Präpositionaladverb and they're what happens when you join a preposition and an adverb. 😉
look a lesson
Yay
Also hey Arrem.
FML German keyboard
LOL
Very difficult to use
Hey Flops!
Solet is here. Problem solved.
you shouldn't need to use a german keyboard if you are not used to it or living in germany :o
I do that as well for phone
I'd rather memorize a keyboard than the alt-codes for non-ASCII characters
I don't need to use a german keyboard? 😮 GroBartig!
i hope you are not programming :D
Nah always US English
👌
Can't do it on anything else
I can technically type with Canadian Multilingual Standard
But not in C/C++ :P
Anyway, are you both ready for translating game?
I just have my iPad on my lap :P
hehehe
Flöps :P
yes but me doesn't have a sentence D:
you do now :)
yep
Moi aussi (no)
what does it mean in english?
Doesn't it mean ready?
🙃
what does it mean in english?
mmmh I already knew the word bereit for ready though
And when I sent the sentence I felt that was wierd
so how did you not notice it
whatever
well
you had a feeling
it's alright
there's one more translationmistake
Isn't that the "translating"
find out

check carefully what my sentence is
I knew it.
To translate is übersetzen.
and despite that you still make the mistake
I knew the mistake was there
do you really know it if you make the mistake?
But not what
Because I didn't know the correct one but knew it was on this word
Didn't I say it?
do you really know it if you make the mistake?
Tief.
no
It is not Pferd.
Righto. Flops.
das Übersetzen Spiel
doesn't quite work. Any other ideas?
Again, what does übersetzen mean?
Yes.
Because it's in lowercase and ends with -en. Yes. Good.
And to be fancy we can smash Übersetzung and Spiel into one word.
don't forget the s
woooo
Übersetzungspiel.
you forgot the s
Between Übersetzung and Spiel.
Most of the time when combining words, you need something to glue them together. Like here.
^
🎉
yay
seems most feminine endings require an s when compounding
Translate: The barrel juice. ^^

omg may I join in
lol casca
Of course.
Perhaps you can help me, Solet. I need a feminine noun ending in -ss.
Das Fass is the closest I've gotten so far.
does it exist? 🤔
wait... what the heck

if you wanna slur Die Kress'
I must put 4 s here?
eheheh
whaaaat is this

I just want to say the "der Fasssaft" but god why 3 s I don't wang to put another one please don't say there is another one what
Now translate the following: The ship journey.
oh
Would you prefer translating a compound word that has seven consecutive vowels?
God I love this.

😄
setzen, 6
Hmm?
Two thirds of the letters in setzen aren't vowels, Solet.
I want to see the word.
Yes, seven, Flappy.
Translate this: The three-egg-eggsalad.
you first write the word correctly
do you say it by making whale noises?
No.
Dreieieisalat?
before continuing
Close, but not quite.
WTF
flappsy
I agree with Solet, Flappy.
write The ship journey again
oh
No use starting one task before ending another. ^^
wher did I go wrong

Pronouncating 3 f. What.

^
Wait wot.
Translate journey, Flappy. ^^
I wanted to use -reise though. :(

and then be confused as how to translate journey
well anyway
translate The ship now
and what is The ship journey translated?

now check with your first answer
...don't tell me I just put an r here

thank you caca

You are most welcome.
Is this a stupid typo or you wanted to write French in here?

flæpsies you will get there soon ^^
You are doing a good job for practicing so much but you need to focus more.
When you write your answer, you should be able to look at it and understand why every part is written that way.
Yeah, will focus way more on that.
🌞
I am quite impatient for the German class I'll have tommorow as well. The first since 2 months. I missed them without noticing it.
:c
That's exciting.
And I have 3 hours of it.
🎉
Let's see another sentence Base, and if I can focus on that more like with cases and stuff.
"The book I gave you for your birthday is my favourite, although the ending of the story is very sad."
Ooooh.
servus allerseits
Hallo.

Awww, all I wrote in there dissapered, whai. :/
Not sure how I should translate "favorite" though.
I am almost translating "favorite book" but that's not it.
And if so...
Favourites are often turned into compound nouns.
he wrote "favourite" though 🙃
Lieblingsessen, Lieblingsfilm, usw.
Yeah, I know all of those, and that's kinda because of them that I want to do it here.
Yes, you can write it like favourite book, flappy. 🌞
Unless you want to try something else.
"Das Buch habe ich dir gegeben, ist mein Lieblingsbuch/Lieblings, obwohl das Endes der Geschichte sehr traurig ist."
GOD THAT GENETIVE I AM NOT SURE. MAYBE IT'S "des Endes die Geschichte."
mmmh maybe I can spot typos now that I see the text way better
3?
Flappy, do you remember what I told you last time about the genitive?
okay, please tell me all the subjects in your clauses
I did that mistake twice then. Once here. I switched the noun who should have genetive.

And Solet, wait a sec, sure
Hehehe. Now I can't see subjects.
1 and 2 are ich. 3 is uuuh 🤔
1 and 2 aren't ich
Yeah, owner is genitive.
1 should be the book, 2 should be ich...I believe
I knew it.
I thought about the book though.
But is the verb conjugated about the book or ich?
well

I said "das Buch habe ich gegeben"
and what would the verb look like if it's the book
Oh.
what's the subject for this?
Lieblingsbuch? Because of ist?
that's not really a full sentence, is it?
mmmmh
I can't see something thay would fit... I was thinking about "das" but thought it was wierd. 🤔
well
what do you think the subject is in the english sentence
that should be easier
name the subjects in the english sentence
what does it mean for your sentence?
That I should swap ich and the book?
what would that accomplish?
