📢 JX issued a ping for Grammar
Message
Hi everyone! The A1 grammar session is going to start in a few minutes. We will discuss the past tenses and possibly a bit about prepositions. Join the Lessons VC to participate.
❤️
Does the perfect tense really have a perfective aspect or is it just a plain past tense?
I always thought it was pre-tay-ri-tum
So the German perfect tense translates both to "I verb-ed" and "I have verb-ed"
itd be impressive to make it to level C without knowing past participles
im not very smart
hecke just repeats sounds she hears and hopes it makes sense
lmao what happened
Explanation of the German Perfekt (present perfect) tense for common verbs.
okay
i can try through chat
"Ich habe der Konversation zugehört."
yeah omit the zu
Is the "als" preposition an A1 level?
Ich kann probiere
machen
Ich habe ein Foto gemacht
ich habe einen kuchen gemacht?
i habe von ihm gehoert
gehoert
studieren
i was gunna swithc to einen but didnt. hmmm
second guessing haha
er hat im ausland studiert
Ich habe mein Hausaufgabe studiert
wir haben das Auto verkauft
whenever we have prefix of "ge" for a verb.. do we use habe / hat/ etc.. always?
ich will in Deutschland studieren :(
@true adder no, for verbs like stehen it's 'ist gestanden'
when are these lessons run btw? i randomly happened to look just now and joined. but these are great!
now and again
btw .. the einen kuchen is bcuz its masculine right
ya ok
i think i heard do u speak germany
oh so sein is intransitive and haben is transitive?
Zum Beispiel...
i bin gegangen
Ich bin aufgewacht.
aufwachen
Ich bin eingeschlafen.
einschlafen
Es ist passiert.
Thanks!
gewesen =been
talk abouyt besucht
when you use haben. its always gunna end up being accusative right?
well its habe right
I want you to talk about "als"
and a movement
this lesson is so useful! 🙂
will there be more lessons
could we maybe have some for intertmediates aswell
in future
@wary atlas I've got a few resources that may help you
Thanks for this. I could study/practice declension every day.
me too i have a deck for verbenmitprapositionalerganzung
Es macht mich verrückt
If we have 2 verbs in sentens like - ich bleibe noch ein bisschen im bett liegen - whats can i do it in perfect ??
will post it in resources
can you trpe
Shouldn't we use here nomalisrung mit zu?
haha liegengeblieben klingt komisch
long
ich bin noch ein bisschen im Bett liegen geblieben
The first in infinitiv and second in perfect . Right ??
Like
Ich bin noch ein bisschen im Bett zu liegen geblieben
So my sentence is wrong?
ok
is this lesson over? please say no 🙂
hahha
that word your saying
is that just imperfect
in english
is it because that would imply it is everything that isnt perfect aswell
how do you spell the word that youa re saying
Gut! unsre Lektion ist liegenbleiben!
u must be australian lol
no. base
ah
Ich sehe
Ich sah
thanbk you
Hey
ich habe Abendessen
Du bist nicht Muttersprachler? Dien English Akzent kling ein bisschen Deutsch.☺️
For formal we use kon2
ich werde zuruck kommen
These lessons are recorded?
i think hes australian
Ich bin noch ein bisschen im Bett liegen geblieben zu is dropped
Like if I want to hear them again
Worksheet used in teaching German to undergraduates.
Okay
Preterite example is first person?
ich bin is the same as ich war? but ich war is like praeteritum where bin is infinitiv?
but it means the same thing?
er/sie/es -t
Bin is present tense first person of sein ( infinative)
where are we readin
ohhhhh
Worksheet used in teaching German to undergraduates.
is it verb conjugation or like cases and so on
so in speaking.. we would never use ich hatte? but use ich habe instead?
kommen
Kam
Komme kommst kommt kommen
Ich komme
Du kommst
Er koomt
Wir kommen
Ihr kommt
Sie kommen
kommt instead of koomt
Er kommt . Sorry
ich komme... du kommst.. er /sie / es kommen.. wir kommen. .ihr kommt.. sie kommen?
kommt*
I ch bin gekommen
ich bin gekommen
Kam . Kamst . Kam . Kamen . Kamt . Kamen
fur geschriebene Sprache
it's also used in formal places
If you use it in conversation will it sound very strange?
and is this another way of past tense of kommen but formal
its okay. you can continue 🙂
( I read a lot of novels!)
I see
ich bin gekommen= ich kam (formal) ?
is there an english equivalent?
When you tell someone a story. I went to the store isaw my friend etc... perfect?
oh i see
Perfekt and present perfect have similar grammatical structure. Präteritum and simple past have similar grammatical structure. However, usage is different.
if u accidentally speak in praeteritum.. does it sound super wrong?
Wait how is the Präteritum is different from the simple past.
oh
because you use simple past in spoken language
präteritum is more of a written tense
They are the same as far i know
Aaghe same( different names)
Ok
but ulttimately.. the meaning is the same
not really d : you use simple past when you have a definite past. i.e: I did my homework yesterday
The usage of these 2 tenses is different. That's all
youre only B level?

Its like past perfect in English?
Danke Base. ich gehe jetzt

After nachdem comes past perfect and its a neben satz then u use a comma and the haputsatz mit Präteritum.
wouldn't it be hatte in that example @true badger ?
Isn't that first image just normal Perfekt?
Honestly I think so
You'd be hatte in this example

no
or is it like
ow ok
the english "um"
noo
I am confused with pluperfect ngl
halt, eben, doch (not the meaning which is but)
how is it laied out
i have 1 more question but it's releated to modal particles
is this ocntent A level?
Ich esse Brot.
Ich habe Brot gegessen.
Ich aß Brot.
Ich hatte Brot gegessen.
omg
What's the different between halt and eben? Afaik, they both mean like if something doesn't happen yet and it's easy to see the result in the future, we use halt/eben. But is there a difference between eben and halt?
oh ya past and present i get i think
so its using the inpoerfect followed by the oerfect
for perfekt
Ich esse Brot
I eat bread
Ich habe Brot gegessen. Ich aß Brot.
I ate bread
Ich hatte Brot gegessen
I had eaten bread
ich war nach deutland gegangen
Hey, that's me 👉
is that pluperfect
with sein
besucht
so habe
ich war nach Deutschland geflogen
yes I think so
ja ich verstehe
Doesn't sound right somehow
Kiiya, do you have any idea for my question above?
so is native speaking diffrent from the formal way? (like what we learn or read in german books ia diffrent from what a native speaker speaks?)
gestern war ich nach deutschland geflogen
yes
this means yesterday i had flown to germany
yes we know
but it may be wrong to a german speaker even though it follwos the grammar rules
You'd say "Gestern bin ich nach Deutschland geflogen" @iron mesa
it wont sound right unless there is another past tense which has happened more recently
@sonic epoch that would be yesterday i flew to germany
rather than i have flown to germany
i think
so one is imperfect
and one is pluperfect
Yeah but no one would say that
Agree with Hühnermann
but thats what i mean
its grammatically correct
but not correct
when you would spealk
I bet there's some complicated rule in grammar that you can only use certain tenses with certain types of verbs. Maybe. Because this can't be right :P
yeah i know, but you would say surely: ich bin ins Museum gegangen, danach ich nach deutschland geflogen war
does that sound right
I'd probably just reccommend learning by intuition. Just practice..
diffrent languygae
Yeah I know
yeah
becauyse thats not pluperfect
Worksheet used in teaching German to undergraduates.
Worksheet on German preterite (simple past or narrative past, Präteritum) tense verbs using the fairy tale Rotkäppchen (Little Red Riding Hood).
that is how i think pluperfect is used, it is in relation to the past, but more back than another past tense sentence
Ich bin ins Museum gegangen, nachdem ich nach Deutschland geflogen war.
Web-based quizzes on the German participles (the perfect tense) for common verbs.
ah nachdem
Grammar worksheets for teaching German - Arbeitsblätter zum Thema Grammatik für den Deutschunterricht.
:>
but apart from nachdem, the tenses were correct?
otherwise ist sounds weird??
pluperfect in both german and english is used in relation to another past event, it shows it happened before that event. However in germany they use it sometimes when we would use our english normal past tense
Noch einmal bitte
Ich bin ins Museum gegangen, nachdem ich nach Deutschland geflogen war.
i have gone to the museum after i flew to gemrany
i went to the museum after i went to germany
i went into the museum after i had flown to germany
yes, everything else about it is correct
i have question
kind of off topic
what is the difference between nachdem, danach all off those words?
whats happening
Interesting.
PQP always needs a reference point in the past and it indicates that it happened before that point.
Perfekt indicates that an action is completed (or will be completed at a fixed point in time)
oh
nachdem is the opposite order of danach, right?
can you repeat
Oh, my interwebs is slow, I only now saw that Louis already explained it kchkch
L
So would you use nachdem when you are talking about a previous time
yeah it does
yeah thats it
nachdem would be used in place of "after"
kiran mute yourselfg
it is after
can i have an example of danach?
so danach when it is to a general idea
of something
nachdem is something exact
okay
i understand
so like dafur dazu
yeah i need an example of nachdem
i see
if anyone has one
the 'literal' translation of 'I have flown to Germany' isn't 'Ich war nach Deutschland geflogen', but rather 'Ich bin nach Deutschland geflogen'
>cefr B
yeah
Louis' sentence is fine
but whewn you use it in relation to another past time, it is ich war geflogen
but what if we want to say i went to the museum after i had flown to germany
Ich habe mein Deutsch verbessert, nachdem ich Baseds erklärung gehört hatte.
Ich bin ins Museum gegangen, nachdem ich nach Deutschland geflogen war.
it is this kiran
yeah if you are only talk that alone
when you wanna use that in relation to an event that has happened sooner
it becomes pluperfect
In formal duden grammar it can't be that, right
huh
great definition learner tartarus

Hello delicious memers. Once again I'll be doing a reading session at 20:00 CET this Saturday. This reading session is open to all levels. In the case that the majority are between a2-b1, we'll be starting to read Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen, and for b2+, you'll have the option between continuing the Witcher books our lovely admin Base started or Die Physiker. (Note: The times and material are all fully flexible, and I'd be happy to take suggestions from every user!) I look forward to seeing all you lovely, motivated learners there <3
