oh okay, you don't sound it
Doktooooooor
thanks base ❤
Mrs.
same
not really
😄
Berg is C2 slang English, but A2 normal English
at least I don't think so
Source: me
so true
Actually I think I'm great at coloquial english
but so trash at normal english
coloquial english ?
When you use lots of slang words
For example, if I ask you for a piece of bread. Do you have a piece of bread?
col·lo·qui·al
kəˈlōkwēəl/Enviar
adjective
(of language) used in ordinary or familiar conversation; not formal or literary.
shit/colloquial English: oi mate, got some bread?
I suck at all languages, so dunno
WHATDOESHEWANT
what does that damn woman want
I hail from the Land of Original Freedom
WOMAN WANTS TO SEE THE FOKKEN BERLIN OK
only a bit of it
BUT HE SHOWS HER ONLY A RESTAURANT

ick bims ne eckte berlinerin

Так, Берго большая какашка
Like Loch

LOL
it's more like a sweet poop
FUCK YOU! DHIEHAHAHAH
not sure that's better
dimunititv for a poop
is it like a cute way?
yeah
I'm a poo poo?
yea youre a poo poo
so Bergo is a little poopo

Can anybody help me with my "essay"?
Tommorrow*
Just dm me if you're a kind soul.
@silent plinth
Post your attempt in #writing
preferably in google docs with replacement mode
@sharp mist could you tone down your language a little
😂
Ich habe frage: in den texten von Heidi, sie sagen nicht "Deine Welt ist die Berge" sondern "Deine Welt sind die Berge". Warum?
Das Subjekt des Satzes ist "Die Berge". Umgeformt würde der Satz heißen: "Die Berge sind deine Welt"
Achso, vielen dank
Gern
I thought it was because die Berge is plural so it's sind, not ist.
oh
Hey guys can i get some feed back while im editing my short paragraph ?
Sure, I'd suggest you post it in #writing
„Dies ist der beste Weg, um die Sprache zu erlernen.”
Okay, I have too many doubts in here. The first, why does the sentence end with 'erlernen' and not simply 'lernen'? And secondly, when to use um zu and zu alone?
Thank you!
@subtle igloo
- both would be correct. 'erlernen' is not a thing in english, both versions translate to 'learn'.
erlernen however implies that you do something for it, I guess
Other example:
arbeiten = work
erarbeiten = work smth. out / work for smth.
this is similar with the verb 'lernen'
um zu = in order to
zu = to
so you would have 'in order to learn the language'
I hope that helps
@still stag thank you! That really helped.

what is the best way to learn vocabulary?
pound the book into your head
but really, flash cards might help, writing sentences, translating articles, etc
And checking on new words when writing with people. Try to use them right away.
hallo/#
guys i want a course to make me native in 3 days , thanks in advance 🙂
I recommend trying out reincarnation.
🙃 🙃 🙃
Same base lol
@boreal zealot how about you ask mika to trade native languages
Sorry, I don't trade my native language.
ah ju äpsolutli schor sät ju wud not träid it?
Yes :D
okäi zänn :D
when do we start this reincarnation?
@ruby ocean ow bout that ping
can you assist me with something
Pferd, I won't be able to be here. 😦
I think I've given you permission to do it.

Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch.
french has the weirdest negation rules
Der Mann gibt Die Frau der Buch
So I have a question. As a Scotsman, how many sheep do you have and are you a leprechaun?
Ein mann gibt eine frau das buch
wut
Scottish people are lit.
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch
🥖
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch.
The man gives the woman the book.
Das buch gibt der Frau ein Mann
einen Mann

@rugged cedar "ein Mann" is the subject, du Nudel
just different thing happening
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch.
Der Frau gibt der Mann das Buch.
Das Buch gibt der Mann der Frau.
Der Mann gibt das Buch der Frau.
my version is just so much more realistic though
beep

Am I audible?
No

Buch akku
You're lagging
Indirect Object: The woman (Dat)
Direct Object: The book (Akk)
What Sly said 😛
Accusative--> Das buch
nom- Mann dat- frau akk-buch
nomativ der mann
Because Frau has got the thingy before "der", not "die"
it would be den Mann then
^
Der Frau
cause of die to der
Because of the same reason, the article
Cuz its die frau
es ist Weihnachten!
Cause there arent two subjects
The sentence would not make sense then
because Frau is already the indirect
Becose were smart our iqs r lyke 150.
we ask questions like was ?
It's getting verb-ed
I guess the context
because books can't give men to ppl?
Because otherwise it would not have any direct object?
then you've never seen a real book
He's dumb.

wer will ein Buch zum Weihnachten bekommen?
Gibt?
gibt?
geben

Geben
Natives can be bad at german too... i got the lowest grade possible for my deutsch abitur :D
"geben intensifies"
V2
verb is on mid ?
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch.
Der Frau gibt der Mann das Buch.
Das Buch gibt der Mann der Frau.
Der Mann gibt das Buch der Frau.
Verb second position
Verb is the second
Vsp
it's always the second
seems legit
the posistion of gibt
i usually wrote so well in my exams that my teacher had to give me a passing grade even though i hadnt read the book we needed to read for it

GOLDEN
which was kinda amusing tbh

yes... fun things
Gibt der Mann der Frau das Buch?
Gibt der Mann der Frau das Buch
Gibt der Mann der Frau das Buch?
Gibt der Mann der Frau das Buch?
Did the man give the book to the woman? Gibt der Mann der Frau das buch?
Idk that form
Geben Sie das Buch 😄
idek what imperative clause is
I would say something else.
Is it "did the man give" as the past?
Geben Sie der Frau das Buch!
Give the woman the book!
"Geben Sie das Buch her" would work
oh gosh

Because it's the declined verb
because it's greedy
I dont know my forms <~>
cause modal verbs are bullies
Because the "mögen" and those stuff tells it to be in the end?
It's like a helping verb no?
you can think of it that way.

it gives a mood
oh bfeck
Will der Mann der Frau das Buch geben?

Kann der Mann der Frau das Buch geben?
Ok 😛 It's a bit defferent in norwegain xd
Kann der Mann der Frau das Buch geben...
nope

i get nervous
Langeweile, you need a ? at the end
you're too advanced for us

Don't @ me
Der Mann hat das Buch gegeben
Der mann hat der frau das buch gegeben
Der Mann hat der Frau das Buch gegeben
@boreal zealot Mute please this is a lesson
how complex can this sentence get
I dont know present perfect
Der Mann hätte der Frau das Buch geben können
A what is?
Cbell your thing 😂
I just couldnt hear you
dependent c l a u s e s
Me neither
after
The man, the one with black hat, gives the book to the woman.
After I ate
until
If i have a hat
because
Because she is ill
Because she wants it.
I like dogs , because they are fun
Der Mann könnte der Frau das Buch gegeben haben.
my d i c k
I think thats an appositive @slender nest
I thought appositive was only with a
what's the german name for it?
The man gives the woman the book because she wants it.
wait nvm
What was the task again
Der mann gibt der frau das buch deshalb sie will es ????
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie es will
@ruby ocean
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie es will.
der man hat das buch gegeben weil sie es will
Der mann gibts die frau der buch, weil sie es will
ach "gives"
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch weil sie will es.
ok I knew it was wrong, but I thought so
is it der or die frau?
jingle bell to the rescue
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie ... will
dont forget the comma before "weil"
no idea
will came behind es
it moved?
PUSH IT SOMEWHERE ELSE
to last
Went to last?
Went to the very last place in the sentence
TIL about the comma
BRONZE RULE: In a subordinate clause, the finite verb is the last element of the clause.
wait what about the infinitive with the modal. Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie es haben will
BRONZE
TRying to fix it is harder when you keep reacting to it it pushes up for me D:
@ruby ocean Exception: Relative clauses with prepositions
@ruby ocean But you put the preposition before the relative pronoun
Subordinate clause?
finnaly
Nebensätze
The man gives the woman the book because she must have it.
the subordinate clause, or dependent clause, is something with a subject and a verb that is not a whole sentence
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie es haben muss.
still
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch weil sie es haben muss
..., weil sie es haben muss
what is an appositive
Der Mann gibts der frau das buch, weil sie es haben muss
Der mann gibt der frau das buch weil sie es haben muss
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie es muss
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie es haben muss
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie muss es haben.
Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch, weil sie muss es haben
@ruby ocean Could you to the little thing I keep losing your message Dx
Ich frage mich doch ab, wieso es möglich ist für diese Leute, zu der deutsche Sprache erschnitzelieren.

Oh
abfragen? @misty creek
ja
commas seperate clauses, so it usually goes before conjunctions or demonstrative pronouns
so what is this rule ?
Danke
wood rule
erschnitzelieren?
I dont understand why the last half is like that
@misty creek an insert basically that can come out. My cousin, a nice girl, is on vacation. a nice girl is the appositive

Tala is ein Meme wie Dreng, Korea.
kk
weil sie es haben muss then?
dreng = ari, oder?

Ja, Korea
the finite verb. How about the infinite verb
Dreng ist ein Ami, ja
Because the woman must have the book, the man gives it to her.
infinitive verb?
wait wouldn't it be .., der deutsche Sprache zu erschnitzelieren since "zu" goes next to verb
What?
thanks jingle bell
Weil die Frau das Buch haben muss, gibt der Mann es ihr.
Weil der frau haben das buch muss,Der man gibt es ihr?
Weil die Frau das buch, der Mann gibt es ihr
Weil die Frau muss das Buch haben, gibt der Mann sie es.
Weil die Frau das Buch haben muss, gibt ihr der Mann . (OH GEEZ RIP)
I love traps
sie is the acc form i believe @solar totem
RIP
does the sentence need haben or not?
but they are gay
Weil die Frau das Buch haben muss, der Mann gibt ihr es.
Weil die Frau haben das buch muss, Der man gibt es ihr
Weil die Fraue das buch haben muss , der man gibt ihr es
Weil die Frau das Buch haben muss, gibt der Mann es ihr.
wer, wessen, wem, wen, WEMST
oh nein
oh
because the main clause is after the dependent clause
this is just fuck you man rule
when that happens, the verb comes first
Because it's muss haben, main verb is muss?
why "gibt der Mann es ihr" not "gibt der Mann ihr es" because we said "Der Mann gibt der Frau das Buch"?
ok
go ahead 😛
(Sly, you don't use 'fick' here. If you're not wanting to meme around, 'Scheiße' would be appropriate)
Bitte nicht ''fick'', sagst du doch ''Fick mich, ich bin jaa ein Schnitzel'', da es poetischer ist als der erste.
because the main clause is second 😄
Sorry
with pronouns the order is different I think
who's teaching? 👀
np^^ i never heard 'fick' being used seriously xD
pferd
when there are two pronouns than the first one is in Akkusativ
[subordinate clause], [finite verb] [subject] [accusative pronoun] [dative pronoun].
Bronze rule 2: verb always goes in the 2nd position
i have no clue
wow
Random
what was the question
beacuse weil?
weiß's nicht
conjuction magic
I was gone for a bit
subordinating conjunction?
Conjugunction
If it blinks at me it'll be the last one
Conjugamation
what's conjunction
it's a phrase
because
Weil
Ok, I'm kinda lost now, new words I haven't learned in english yet so cya, thanks though 😄
bevor (before) dass (that) ob (whether) wenn (if, when)
gosh
Doesn't "dass" keep the finite verb in its supposed place in the clause?
Subordinating conjunctions always follow nouns i think
if yes, do you know what the biggest problems are that they come with, here?
comma?
What was the question again?
the position of the verb?
@runic pelican Do you have a link to where you found that?
Nee, weten we niet, @misty creek . Vertel is, jongen.
no it was given to me.
The position of the subordinating clause?
there's a difference?
Tenses? grammar?
Hm
the fact that the verb is at the end 😄
Pronoun by itself
Ik vroeg er eigenlijk naar
Ive never heard those in english ever
Maar blijkbaar is er niemand die dat weet @dense fable
tricky tricky
Not even in school what
der, die, das, den
Dus dat is mij wel vreemd
Problemen? Waarmee, precies?
worum, wie, was, woher
Nouja, met de Duitse grammatica
yeah that totally makes sense
was bedeutet worum?
Uitspraak en spelling is meestal toch geen enkel probleem voor de Nederlandstaligen onder ons
For Subjects and Objects:
- Use the case endings, not the word order, to determine who is doing what to whom.
For Verbs:
1) GOLDEN RULE: In a main clause, the finite verb is the second element of the clause.
2) SILVER RULE: In a question or command clause, the finite verb is the first element of the clause.
3) BRONZE RULE: In a subordinate clause, the finite verb is the last element of the clause.
4) There can only be one finite verb in each of these clauses.
5) In a main or question/command clause, if the finite verb is an auxiliary verb, the modified original verb is the last element of the clause. In a subordinate clause, it is the second last element of the clause.
Grammatica des te meer..
sigh
That was it?
and thanks
What are you saying @misty creek ?
Oh, I was speaking Dutch
So all clauses that start with those are subordinate clauses?
'tis my native language
Oh
can we talk about if we add adverbs
Naamvallen, niet?
I couldnt understand at the end why it was der frau das buch haben muss
I dont know languages and this is a german server so im gonna assume
was wondering about what the biggest problem was with German for Dutch speakers
@dense fable Mwa, naamvallen zijn op zich niet zeer lastig
Bitte
Of dat behoren ze niet te zijn
t'was fun and informative
Het Nederlands heeft er ook vier in de persoonlijke voornaamwoorden
@ruby ocean You promised GreyWind a spoiler I believe
From the next lesson^
you know "weil der frau das buch haben muss,..."
Yea I didnt understand the haben muss really
Why es was before ihr
De accusatief is dan wel echter alleen in de derde persoon enkelvoud dusja
@jagged owl well, you could recognise dutch from german with some differences
I think he answerd, henbraus,
[subordinate clause], [finite verb] [subject] [accusative pronoun] [dative pronoun].
dutch has ''ik'', German ''ich''
But my goal is to learn German not Dutch
low german has ''ik'' too, but no ij
Yes, true, but I was talking with the other in our respective languages :p
Im just gonna leave it
Bell speaks it?
I just dont want to read dutch and think its german then get confused
@jagged owl Just assume it's Dutch if you see a bunch of j's 😛
when you learn enough german you can see the difference
ij*
"dusja"
I'm even more confused now
I mean ive done German for 4 weeks so
give it a few months
Also Dutch has way more double vowels
my eyes, wanna practice it?
Hoelang ben je al bezig met Duits, @misty creek ?
Dutch is easier for you if you're not familiar with cases, but German will be of more use
In the world
@quartz otter true
I plan to learn Dutch too
we even have this stuff!
But I want to learn German more
eeuw, ieuw, lauw
@runic pelican I'd love to, but I'm on phone I'll add you when my computer decides to work
etc
sure
@dense fable sinds mn 12e? denk ik? maar na twee jaren in het middelbaar stopte ik, en later wilde ik weer aan mijn naamvallen werken
Can you keep conversations about Dutch out of this channel? Especially since there's a lesson going on.
sure mika
good lesson overall
accusative pronoun > dative pronoun > dative noun > accusative noun
Danke Herr Pferd
Ich weiß es, dass ich es bald werde erledigen müssen
I know that i must take care of it soon...?
Is it dumping a dead body?
Do you need "Ich weiß es" when you have the subordinate clause, Pferd?
Mika?
Luna?
You don't need the "es" actually
I read
es for the best
Nice example, Sly 😄
wat
anyone got some feedbacks?
^
thanks

It was prior to reform or something
@ruby ocean will there be any major teaching in the following 10 minutes? I gotta call my ISP
According to Conanized you can capitalize "ihr" and "du" to indicate a sort of intimity
ok I guess I am a bit dumb but what is an finite verb?
@peak scaffold no we done
Like in a personal letter or something
@ruby ocean danke!
It's prior to the spelling reform of 1996
And the capitalization of "du"/"ihr" is optional (when referring to the reader[s]).
the verb you conjugate
Pferd ist bae
it's tough to talk about in english which is terrible at conjugating things 😄

your pronunciation is the hard thing
the older you get, the more your own language becomes a hindrance I think
you won't sound native
