I found this song a while ago, called "Komm doch heim", which translates roughly to "Please come home."
Why please here then? Because of doch. I knew the translation without learning doch could be used that way, how? I followed the meaning, not the translation, of doch.
I would say that the "please" in "Komm doch heim" is more extreme than a "bitte" for example, but maybe that's just me.
