Two questions:
1.) What is the proper phraseology to request a turn for weather?
2.) Do I need to ask for each turn or can I say "deviation up to 50 miles" for example?
Thanks!

In the USA, the most common is "request XYZ right/left for weather"

But if you need to just use plain English

CASA - "Request to deviate up to XXX miles L/R/L&R, of route/track due wx" - you will be given the entire width to manouvre

"Request heading /track XXXdeg due wx" - Preferable alternative if operating in TMA under vectors, esp if high traffic vol/MVA considerations

"Request to deviate and maintain XXX miles L/R of route/track due wx" - Rarely used but possible. You will fly the xtk as specified

I ask ATC "(tail#) requesting permission to deviate around weather".

They'll either give you a vector or most likely tell you can deviate as needed.
