Controllers often come with their own program for routing keyboard and mouse controls to them in the configuration you desire. If you dont have such a program, get one for free online. You dont have to worry about what controller the game supports. As long as your windows supports the controller you want, just use that controller to simulate mouse and keyboard controls through the appropriate program.

#

Some programs might also allow you to simulate the controls of a different type of controller on the controller you want to use.

some games through ubi connect natively "support" ps4 controllers, but it's often weird and not great, though that isn't where the story ends

#

if you use a playstation 4 controller, you can download DS4Windows, a program that looks for your dualshock controller (also works with the ps5 dualsense), and fools your pc into thinking it's a xbox 360 controller, as windows doesn't natively support them

Last time I used an xbox one controller on PC, had to remap the controls.

yeah, the native controller support for ac1 is a bit goofy, as some keys don't seem to be bound to the correct places

#

one good way of maybe fixing that up more easily is using x360ce

#

that's a program that virtualizes an xbox controller too, and reads from dinput/xinput controllers to make things work nicer

Do not waste your time buying an xbox 360 controller, as the xbox one controller and newer would work instead.
