Hello. I'm working on a automation game focused on building out a large train network similar to factorio. I'm trying to build out a team to work on the project and I'm looking for at least 1 additional programmer to help with the workload.

The core idea of the game is you arrive in a land that is already inhabited. The player needs to build up a complex train/factory network to support the locals so that you can take a bit off the top to send back home. As the game progresses you need to appease them with more complex goods requiring expanded factories and busier train networks. I've attached 2 videos showing train building and world generation thus far

This project is aiming to be of commercial quality, as such this is purely using C#, no GDScript due to both performance concerns for large entity counts and code quality reasons as C# has a more mature ecosystem. The current aim is to make a vertical slice of the game mechanics to establish if it's fun to play. I have already put significant work into the code so the basic structure is there but there are many core features left to work on. Once we have a vertical slice we can decide on the next steps such as early access or pitching to a publisher.

Personally I'm a professional developer with 10+ years of commercial programming experience including project management. As such I'm willing to take on more junior developers that have a passion to learn as I can mentor/review your code to ensure it's production ready. However I don't want to hand hold so I would expect you know C# and generally how to program

If this sound interesting to you please reach out, either by responding here or you're welcome to DM me. Thanks for reading

@frozen escarp That sounds quite interesting. What kind of workload would you expect from an assistant? Would the tasks be managed using tools like Trello or Jira?

No specific requirements for workload, as long as your honest about what you can commit and more than once in a blue moon. I would use contribution amount to determine revshare splits

In terms of project management it depends what people want, I'm more than happy to put it into a board if it helps people track or I can just assign things base on people's interests/skills. In terms of a specific platform I would have to check costs, eg Jira is very expensive and honestly not worth it outside large companies

ClickUp is good, from subtasks to kanban, flowcharts and uml files, very complete

I didn't realise they had a free plan. It has been a few years since I looked at project management solutions and that was in the context of a small-mid size company. Just looking at their pricing breakdown it seems cheaper than it used to be for paid plans anyway. I suspect the reason it was too expensive was because we made heavy use of automation so 1700 rules would be used very quickly
Still generally I think the feature set of jira is really targeted at large companies where everything must follow strict rules which can be defined directly in the system. Super cool to have, just kinda not needed for small projects. Hence why they have trello for a more casual audience
