Let people form their own opinion, don't set it to something negative for them. You're just working against yourself.
Besides, if people don't want to help, they don't have to! You want people to join the project based on their own desires.
In a more general sense, I suppose... Don't attack yourself because you expect to be attacked and don't want to give someone else the chance to do it harder, because you aren't always going to be attacked.
