An open source recreation of Legend of Zelda for Nintendo Entertainment System in Godot 4.4
Why I'm making this:
- i think godot needs more project templates people can use as a starting point for games
- I always liked the simplicity of this engine
- its a classic
- good practice / I have adhd

This is a recreation of the original Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) using the Godot game engine.
My intention is to not be 100% accurate, but rather to make a very similar engine that could be used as a base to create a similar game with relative ease. I want to keep the source easy to understand and modify, and do things the native Godot way (even at the expense of accuracy).
Goals
My hope is someone will find this template interesting and use it to make a cool original game.
I also hope to find others interested in continuing to add onto this engine to get as close as possible to feature parity with the original game.
Eventually it would be nice to create an extended version that adds other features to the game that people may want to include.
