I must be losing my mind. I've set up buttons so many times before but suddenly this one isn't working. I deleted the node entirely and started again, changed the order in the tree, disconnected and reconnected the signal and still. I can click the button. It does the little default texture change thing but it doesn't print.

Try this (Select TextureRect and look in inspector)
Or try changing action mode to Button Press just for troubleshooting
Neither had any effect

Start game, Open up Debugger -> Misc and click the button a bunch of times, see if the Control changes here
I do see you have some errors in debugger, are they related?

The red one is because I moved some stuff for another, unconnected scene and haven't cleaned it all up yet

Last time I think we had to resort to sharing the project and having me import it lol

Otherwise try restarting Godot
Try making your root node CookingScene a Control node (shot in the dark)
It could also be something embarrassing like debug prints being disabled 😋
