#Rotating on Y breaks my intended Z rotation

Hello, I am working on a game where you can run around a ring. It pretty much works except when I rotate my player 90 degrees so they dont have to run sideways my code to orientate the players rotation to the ring breaks

It is probably due to Quaternions or somethign but i have no clue how they work so if someone could give me a hand that would be great, thanks
