i can move perfectly fine with all directions and up-left and down-right diagonals but it seems to hesitate when going up-right and down-left

Reading the code down right should be fine and up left should be fine. As well as individual. The reason right up and down left is strange is because you multiply left and up by speed. Then normalize.

Since both left and up are multiplied by speed they work fine together. Same with right down both not multiplied by speed
