I think I messed up Wand. I accidentally forgot to shut it off playing multiplayer game of Sins of a Solar Empire 2 yesterday. Now it doesn't work at all. Well, sort. I load a single player game, activated Wand, wait till it says "Playing" (like it does), then go back to the game. Nothing happens. The mods don't load and I can't use "Alt+W". Wand just sits there and the games continues as if there are no mods at all.

  1. I have the game on Steam

  2. I often use other mods, but not always. This time I am.

  3. I have not tested any other games

Please help me with this issue. I like Wand. I like Sins 2. I would really like them to play nice together. Can you help me?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this post.

You shouldnt use Wand with multiplayer games in general

Multiplayer

Wand is designed for single-player experiences only. We don’t support or condone cheating in multiplayer games, as it can negatively impact others and the wider gaming community. Thanks for helping us keep gaming fair and fun for everyone!

We recommend doing a clean reinstall of the game via Steam. After uninstalling, please remove any leftover game files before reinstalling.
Once done, restart your PC, launch the game from Steam without mods, then exit the game.

After that, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Clean Reinstall Wand
Uninstall Wand via Add or Remove Programs
Delete the following folders:
-C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\Wand
-C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\SquirrelTemp
-C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Roaming\Wand

Restart your PC

Reinstall Wand by downloading it from: https://wand.com/download

PS: You can find your AppData folder by pressing Win + R, type in %appdata%, and press Enter. Also, if you see any WeMod related folders, please delete them too.

Step 2: Disable Overlay

Disable the Wand overlay by going to Game settings → Overlay options → Overlay and turning it off.
It may also help to temporarily disable any overlays while testing, as they can sometimes interfere with mods. This includes overlays from apps such as Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner/RTSS, and AMD Radeon.

Step 3: Launch Order

Fully close both Wand and Steam from your system tray. Once closed, relaunch both applications as Administrator (right-click each app and select “Run as administrator”).

Set Steam to Offline Mode (open Steam → click “Steam” in the top-left → select “Go Offline”).

Launch the game directly from Steam (do not use Wand yet) and load into your saved game.

Wait until the game has fully loaded and you’re able to move around in the game world.

Once in-game, press Alt+Tab to switch to the Wand app, then click PLAY to connect the trainer. When the status shows “PLAYING,” you can enable your mods again.

Oh bummer, that will delete my save. Oh well. Ce la vie

I type such rubbish French....

A clean reinstall can remove local save data depending on how the game stores saves. If your saves are not backed up to Steam Cloud, you can back them up first before proceeding with the reinstall steps pepelove

Working on it...18.89 GB to reinstall. Wow.

Ah ok, so for this tile overlay isn't available, you can skip this part

Stick to this one with regards to overlay:

It may also help to temporarily disable any overlays while testing, as they can sometimes interfere with mods. This includes overlays from apps such as Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner/RTSS, and AMD Radeon.

Well ####. It Didn't work?

#

It didn't work...

All that time and effort and it didn't work.

Hey @pure bramble Can I double check that you performed a clean install of Wand and also restarted your PC once?

pure bramble
#

Yes. I even deleted a bunch of folders to make sure it was clean. Although, I had to reinstall a mod to get the saved game he was referencing. And the Cloud info was still there.

#

May I know which mod you had to re install?

pure bramble
#

Galactic Empire Plus [Live]. It lets you play the Galactic Empire from Star Wars. And the M.E.M. Framework which is a utility you need to get the Galactic Mod to work.

normal saddle
#

And are you using Wand while this mod is running?

pure bramble
#

Trying to. It's not working for some reason.

normal saddle
#

Yeah. That's because Wand doesn't work while other mods are running, and that should be why it's acting up for you

pure bramble
#

It worked before.

normal saddle
#

That can happen, but wand is built to be used in a stand-alone manner. Single player game titles used with Wand is the perfect use case. Playing multiplayer or using other mods simultaneously will result in Wand not behaving correctly

pure bramble
#

Huh.

#

I never encountered this issue before.

#

Don't that beat all?

normal saddle
#

Unfortunately no, because we can only offer support when Wand is being used as intended, which is without third party mods running simultaneously

pure bramble
#

You're not going to believe this. Wand works, sort of. I just can't use alt-w
