I understand, but does the game have any anti-cheat protection or anything that could get my Steam account flagged for a ban?

No, it’s extremely unlikely.

The only time you get VAC bans are from cheating on vac secured servers and game bans usually come from the devs catching people cheating in their multiplayer servers

If there are ever any issues with soft bans or being flagged as a modder it will be listed under a read before playing tab
