As an (albeit worse) alternative, you can use Temporal Upscaling to a similar effect. Just set your render scale below 100 and set Anti Aliasing to TAA High which does some upscaling.
However, another thing to keep note of is in large scale battles, you're more likely to be CPU bound so what I'd do is check to see if your GPU usage is lower in these battles. If it is then having FSR wouldn't be beneficial.
