#THE DOMUS

I normally build for functionality. And clinically, my designs work. I wanted to try something purely creative.
So I put a lot of research into this project and while I learned a whole lot about Greco-Roman styles and buildings, I didn't keep it lore accurate.
So we'll call it lore adjacent.
For any history buffs out there, I did keep all the Greco-Roman aspects of the houses, but stuff like the cubiculum's were turned into 'crafting' areas, and the atrium is just an open courtyard winces Sorry.
I did, however, ensure to make a shrine, and the Triclinium (dining room) Tabernae (shops) and a Tablinium (office) BUUUTTT I took a lot of liberties with my design.
Again, for the lore buffs, I have a his and hers bathroom, because back then, men and women did not share bathrooms. I have 2 shops, and with the office, I also made a huge house library, which is not common, but again, I took some liberties
I will post more pictures of the build to paint a complete picture, but I think the initial posts only allow for 10 pictures.
The Triclinium
This was always the most extravagantly decorated room in the house. Food was a huge cultural thing in Greco-Roman culture and so lots of care was taken to lavishly decorate this room. Also, the people would lay on their left sides and pick at the food, while talking about their day. So I made sure to incorporate that into the design, complete with a mosaic wall.
The Tablinium
The office, where the family kept all its records, but I combined this into an open library, complete with a place to sit and look over the atrium. While I took some liberties and this is my first big creative project, I simplified this and mirrored the whole house, so assume if it looks like this on one side, it's identical on the other. The exceptioin being the study itself, as it's central to the library.
The Taberne
The shops. These are supposed to be attached to the house, but seperate, and I was already too far into the build when I realized my error, and put them internal to the house. While going as close to lore heavy as I can, not a lot can be done about some modern items.
Again, this was a creative project and I had a little (ok A LOT) of fun doing this
The Master Bedroom
I truly, truly suck designing large spaces. but I absolutely love this bedroom design.
The Lesser Bedroom
I assume a child's bedroom shrug
Kept to the same relative idea as the master bedroom. (again, with both bedrooms, assume this is mirrored on the other side.)
The Shrine
Again, not very creative, but I tried. The offerings of precious gems and oils and wines.
The Cubiculum
The sleeping spaces for the slaves were called Cubiculum. But seeing as I don't have slaves, nor do I want any, I turned these spaces into crafting areas. 8 spaces in total.
as I was posting this, I seem to not have had all my crafting spaces documented, hahaha
i love the designs, i also love how it's based built on historical events and ideas. The ONLY way i could see improving this is by adding some type of carpet in the large spaces to fill the void in the room, also the outside of the base looks very bland and lacks depth. meaning you should try adding some type of plants to the outside of the walls or have designs or other small trinkets such as like a well or something in that matter. the walls are way too flat. when i run into this problem and have no way of fixing it, in every game i over grow it with bushes or rubble in some way. whatever works best for you! just add some depth and you should be good lol
Thank you!
This my first attempt at something creative and will try to add some of these details in
one of the things I didn't end up feeling too bas about later on is that most domus' didn't have windows (glass was a luxury, as were bricks) but its a good idea to hide it with other landscaping features
Looks amazing! How did you do the stove fireplace in the last one. I haven’t seen that anywhere to be craftable. Am I missing it?
this is nice. I like it!
