Don't know if I should put this here but I own a Australian Wii that has been region unlocked for a while. I finally got my hands on a NTSC copy of Kirby's Return to Dreamland for Christmas and when I boot up the game, a pink bar covers the bottom 8th of the screen. Does anyone know why this occurs and how to fix it?

are you playing on a pal console? if so, you should use an external loader (like usb loader gx) to set the video mode to ntsc
you might also get away with changing your screen resolution from 576i to 480i in wii settings

you'd just be overriding it for this game specifically in the loader.
